Wondering if anyone has tried using a Thermaltake DuOrb or any other aftermarket cooler on a 4850? Reason is because, the I'm not liking the idle and load temp. 79c and 80c.

Most coolers that fit the 3800s will fit the 4800s as well. The Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 specifically is very popular.

Been dying for someone to try this new beast

I have not yet seen it for sale (well only checked newegg and that was a week ago) but I really like the shroud around the fans, should help a lot compared to the S1 Ver 2 + fans and might even be cheaper in the end. Lots of people complain about the "fussyness" of installing the fans onto the S1. /shrug.

yea thats sweet for the price, to bad its not out.

Right now am using 2x S1s

The main problem am having with the s1 is the damn heat pipe gets in the way of the heatsink on the last ram chip. So i might just switch to the new Accerlo and keep these s1s for something else.. haven't decided.

how did you remove that black thing around the base. Did that help at all? Did you just pull it off?

thats like rev1, it didnt have the black casing, i ordered a 2nd last week and it came with the black casing (rev2)

OT question guys....

as hot as the 4800 series are is it "OK" do just have a bga ramsinks on the mem? doesnt the stock cooler also fans the ramsinks?

im thinking of putting my maze4 gpu block on my 4850 but worried that just putting bga ram sinks is not enough

the stock cooler doesn't really fan the heatsinks, it more accurately blows the heat out into your case that is transferred from the heatsink. I think standard bga sinks will be fine, GPU it self gets the hottest it seems.
