I built this computer back in July 2010, less then a year ago. It's never been overclocked, and it's never had any other problems other then one single blue screen of death that I recall over the entire time having it. I'm posting from my laptop right now.

I was converting one of my owned DVDs in Handbrake to a file for my DROID X when suddenly my computer randomly shut off, no warnings, no error messages, just completely went out. I thought at first the power went out in my house.. the green light just kept flashing. Any time I try pressing the power button it does not respond at all. I haven't done any OCing to my comp at all, and the only changes I've made to it recently were a HDMI cable out to my big screen TV and a 5.1 speaker system I installed to it... I tried following the troubleshooting guide for "Will not POST" and nothing was successful.

Here are the specs.

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2Ghz. 4GB of Corsair XMS3 (2 x 2GB) SDRAM DDR3 1600. Sapphire ATI Raedon HD 5770 1GB. 750W X-Connect PSU, MSi 880GMA E45 Micro ATX AM3 Motherboard

I also tried swapping out powersupplies with another equivalent one I have in my house and that was also unsuccessful.

I am thinking motherboard shot? What would cause it to happen?
 
Causes are dead psu, which you have eliminated. Overheating, but it will post again after waiting about 10 minutes once things cool down. A short somewhere can also cause this. Take a flashlight and look closely for any spots that look burnt out on the mobo. You might also might want to temporarily to only plug in the necessary hardware and see if it will post that way.
 
Did the necessary hardware too, tested from the same power source with another working tower that I have too... absolutely nothing, rig is as dead as a doornail when attempting to power on. At this point it has to be the motherboard or processor, even then I highly doubt it would be a processor or GPU, especially since they've never even been overclocked.

Hmm.
 
Try a different motherboard at this point in time.
 
**Update**

Looks like it was the motherboard. I did a small side upgrade and purchased a new Antec case, motherboard and PSU.

Replaced the parts and moved my components into the new case, it booted up and picked up right where it left off with little trouble and a couple driver installs. I installed the new motherboard drivers for the hell of it just to be sure. The computer is now running like a champ once again.

Anything I'm missing ? Should I reformat my HD from installing a entirely different motherboard or should I be fine?

If it's Windows 7, you'll be fine with not reinstalling the OS
If it's not Windows 7, do a fresh reinstall.
 
Personaly I wouldn't bother reinstalling unless you have problems. Your new motherboard seems very similar chipset wise (same chipset series but it's the variant without integrated graphics) to your old one.
