I would love to have your comments on this build/parts i'm putting together for my next build. Better/cheaper parts are welcome please provide links if you do. This build is mostly for gaming, not much multi-tasking. Will be using a GF7950 video card until i get enough money for a 8800GT. Flaming is also welcomed :) i like constructive criticism :D

the crucial is way cheaper than the ocz and is highly recommended from ppl here that have good results with it.
BTW this will be my 1st intel build, so please bear with me, its so differant than a AMD build/overclocking.

Try for 2x2GB. 4x1GB might not be as friendly.

And edit your post to include the name. I hate it when people post a collection of links.

And with the XQpack, I assume you're not worried about aesthetics, correct?
 
The case is really not for looks, it has a slide out tray, the power supply mounts over the pci slots and not over the cpu which is a big ++ for me, the only thing that worries me about the case is that it does not look like its sturdy and may not retain noise very well....still looking for a different case, i may change my mind on that one.Also some one pointed out to go with different brand of ram (crucial ballistix) because they had very good results with it, but i never had good luck with crucial>they always died on me in my AMD builds, so im gonna have to stear clear of this brand. " old habit's are hard to let go. I might go with this one: OCZ Reaper HPC Edition 4gb (2x2gb) DDR2 800 http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16820227267 they cost alittle bit more but there 2x2gb so i don't have to go 2x1gbx4 sticks. the only thing that worries me about this ram is it loves voltage (2.1v at stock) will the Abit Fatal1ty F-I90HD run this ram at stock speeds.still looking at these RAM option 2= Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1gb) DDR2 667 http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16820146567 yes i know its crucial, but this is not a amd build and i must keep an open mind.
 
Go with the P5E VM HDMI or the P5K VM if you want to save a little.

The Abit board has some nice features but it is has long term reliability issues.

As for the case, Ultra Microfly is a better choice on a budget. Get the case without a PSU.

As for the CPU, I would just drop $199 for the Q6600 from microcenter.

As for the RAM.

I would get Crucial PC6400. You can run 4x1GB sticks in the P5KVM reliably at DDR800 4-4-4-12. I would have issues running 4x1GB faster than that.
 
I'll reiterate one thing already mentioned above. The F-I90-HD has a higher than normal death rate. Its been known to die wether running stock or overclocked. My personal advice is don't use it. Go for the P5K-VM or the P5E-VM HDMI.
 
Thank you Nicksterr and PClark99, Im deffentaly going to take ur advice on the ultra microfly and the power supply, much better option imo. As for the cpu, i think im gonna stick with the c2d. I mostly just game, and really dont have much need for quad core at this time or in the future. And i think ill stick with the G.skill, I really dont OC much maybe 10-15% oc at most, and i think i can hit that with this ram.

Thank you Skott, i have a few questions about the P5K-vm, Does the P5K-vm have the issue with vdroop like the P5E-VM HDMI does, I really dont want to do a pencil mod or hardware mod on a mobo that should have been fixed by asus before they rolled it out the door. Too many ppl are having issues with the Abit mobo :mad: so i guess i'm gonna have to do some more homework and shop around some more.

It does have some vdroop but its not real bad. Most mobos that overclock seem to have vdroop from everything I have heard. Some are just worse than others. If I'm not mistaken there is a pencil mod for it. If you are wanting the better OCing performance the P5E-VM HDMI is a little better on the fsb OCing than the P5K-VM. The P5K-VM has fallen to second place since the P5E-VM came out. Although its still a good mobo.

My advice would be to compare the two and their features and then decide which one best suits your needs. Either would serve you well as far as performance and stability goes.
