Hello there! My first post on [H]ardForum. :3

Introduction:
I am building myself a nas that will run on Nas4Free, using the ZFS filesystem.
This NAS will be used as a backup server, music/movies streamer and document sharer.
( Possibly also as my personal cloud. ) I am building this to be fast & capacitive, because I will probably also host my future (local) test websites on it. Encryption will also be used on a part of the pool, 32GB memory must be sufficient for my pools.
It is rackmount. I understood I should look at ECC and encryption support in my CPU/motherboard, but don't really know where/what to look at..

Any advice is appreciated, especially concerning the motherboard & processor. :)

Information:
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Streaming, backups, folder sharing, cloud access
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included? Budget does not matter. I buy the parts via a wholesale shop.
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible. Belgium.
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? Advice on my RAM, Motherboard, CPU, PSU, Controller, SSD's.
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? None, all is new. :)
6) Will you be overclocking? No.
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? Headless system.
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Within a few months or so.
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? I need at least 2 SATA ports, PCI slot for a HBA/controller, sata 6gb/s, sub 3.0 and onboard video.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? Will be using Nas4Free.

May I ask why you're going with two SSDs, and different models at that, for this NAS?

Well, to maximize throughput and not having the disks as a bottleneck, i'm putting the zfs caches on SSD's:
  • L2ARC is the reading cache, so this has to be bigger to deliver frequently requested files. (during the shares)
  • ZIL is the write cache, so this requires a small SSD. You could put both caches on the same SSD, but this would limit the throughput for the l2arc.

The different brands are more the results of a lookup on the internet.
 
You should do the build with ECC memory. If you are going to build new.

That's pretty much the more common server mobo that's recommended and used around here and over at ServeTheHome.com. AS for the CPU, you can actually use the Core i3 21xx and Core i3 32xx series CPUs and still be able to use ECC RAM there. Also, make sure that you get unbuffered ECC RAM. As for RAM manufacturer, stick to Kingston since they have the higher rate of success with Supermicro motherboards.

Edit: NAS a lot more powerfull than a QNAP TS-870U-RP and still cheaper, yay! :D

I do not trust OCZ SSDs. Not to mention that particular SSD is usually overpriced. I'd look at the Samsung 840 or another Crucial m4 SSD.

Is the Norco 4220 or 4224 cases available in your country?
 
Good to hear that the OCZ SSD's should not be used, I picked a second m4 one!
The 64GB version of the Samsung 840 pro seemed not available everywhere..

As for the case, I tried to pick a short(er) chasses so it would fit in my cabinet. I'm going to hang the cabinet on the wall, so the default datacenter length of storage chassis' is too long for me, and the Norco cases simply have too much drive slots for my needs.
