on a couple:

Raptors are sexy, but I don't think they're terribly useful, not for the price of another 500GB+ drive. They're also bound to make noise, 10,000rpm simply cannot not make noise. Not necessarily +db but a definite sound you can hear.

Spend that cash on a full 640MB GTS. I know it doesn't matter much today, but you're going to need that extra VRAM in the near future.

I have the 620Watt version of that PSU, I like it. It's tidy to work with and quiet.

I'm scared of the lower EVGA boards, specifically ones that say 'NF63' instead of 'NF68'. Do a search in the forum, someone listed all of the EVGA boards with details, showing which ones were the good ones and which ones to stay away from, for overclocking in particular.

For the CPU, overclocking is a crapshoot. The 6320/6420 are downbins of 6600's... Some hit 3.6ish, others barely make 3.0. I can't get mine stable above 3.0, regardless of voltage, and I know this board can go higher.

thanks man, ill take another look at the motherboard there,

And you have a good point with the Raptors, I have 2 now im about to sell, and they are very noisy. A little annoying in fact. what is a good value for a larger drive?

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10's, they're fast drives. Not as fast as the Raptors obviously, but they're as close as you can get right now @ 7200RPM. The 400 or 500Gb models are pretty cheap right now. I got mine on sale from Fry's for like $110 or $120, but I think you can get them for that much from Newegg now.

And I agreee w/IdiotInCharge, make sure you do your research on your mobo! Get exactly what you want.

Unless your going sli, ditch the EVGA and go with any of the P965 boards out there(DFI Dark, Quad GT, DS3) or possibly a P35 based board.

Also instead of getting the XMS2's pickup some good GMH based memory since your planning on trying to get the most out of a 6320. Right now g.skill hz's are going for$109.00 on the egg. You can also get Crucial Ballistix 8500's for $109.00 on the if you can put up with the $85 rebate.

About the 6320, consider the 6420 for the 8x multi. or if your budget permits grab a 6600.

I agree, a P965 board like the DFI or QuadGT are good overclockers and great if you don't want to do SLI.

And I would definitely say drop the Raptor, dump that money into a better processor or the 640mb version of the GTS.

And also, if you shop around I believe you could find the Corsair HX620 for the price of the 520 you have, maybe even cheaper. I saw one in the [H]ot Deals that was like $110! Amazing price for the power you're getting.

agree about the raptor, just make sure the subsitute can do NCQ not all SATA2 3GB/s drives have NCQ. go directly to manuf page for the exact drive and make sure. Do not trust an ad to be correct.

Just in case you did not know, that is the motherboard with 2 year warranty that had issues with OCing Quad core cpus. See below.

From post in motherboards:

Cyant Limp Gawd

NF63-TR (Now called 680i SLI SE) / NF68-TR / NF68-AR are all the same motherboard physically, only the bundle and warranty change. NF63-TR are the old NF68-TR/AR with a new sticker put on top of the old part number to sell them as non-quadcore overclocking boards, hello cutting lost on unsold bugged board...

NF68-T1 and NF68-A1 are the same board, only the bundle and warranty change.

NF63-TR = 2 year warranty, small bundle of cable, no support for quad core overclocking, you CAN'T RMA it for a free upgrade to NF68-T1.
NF68-TR = 2 year warranty, small bundle of cable, no support for quad core overclocking, you CAN RMA it for a free upgrade to NF68-T1.
NF63-T1 = 2 year warranty, small bundle of cable, support quad core overclocking.
NF68-AR = Limited lifetime warranty, full bundle of cable, no support for quad core overclocking, you CAN RMA it for a free upgrade to NF68-A1.
NF68-A1 = Limited lifetime warranty, full bundle of cable, support quad core overclocking.

If you are not running a quad core AND trying to overclock they perform the same. if you want to overclock a quad core you need one with the number 1 at the end of the part number. That's it, no more no less.

Thanks for all your input, ill be ditching the raptor, getting the seagate. And most likey the GSkill. Will the 6600 have a much higher chance of getting alot higher than the 6420?? Im torn between the 2. It seems its a $40 diffrence, and the 6600 are hitting 3.6 easier. I would be satisfied with that, for sure

Im confused with motherboards, Can someone suggest one for me that is a good price and will over clock really well? I'm not looking to do SLI, although it doesn't hurt to maybe have that option in the future.

also out of these chip sets, which is known to over clock the highest with the 6600 and/or 6420? or does it completely depend on the board?

680i sli, 650i Ultra, P965, p975, P935.

looks good but there is cheaper RAM

this gskill is just as good as the corsair and its DDR800

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231098

and its only $80

if you wanted to save $$ that is how i would go

I also have a OCZ powerstream 520w PSU SLI that i am selling for $75 shipped

which is just as good as the corsair and a lot cheaper......

as for the mobo I like the Evga 650i chipset

680i sli, 650i Ultra, P965, p975, P935.

It all depends what your goals are. Most 6420's will get to 3.2-3.4 faily easily. You would need to luck out and get a good one to reach 3.6 on air. On the other hand 3.6 should be fairly easy to reach on a 6600. Its up to you.

On the other hand 3.6 should be fairly easy to reach on a 6600.

This ain't true anymore with the recent batch of E6600.
3.6 is still possible but 3.2-3.4 is more likely.

I suggest to pick up the vanilla Asus P5K (if SLI is not required).
It features the new P35 chipset and will be compatible with the upcoming Penryn.
I had a DS3 3.3 before and I find the P5K to be highly superior in terms of ease of overclocking and stability.

what is good about the p35?

This looks like a great board here

Im sticking with the 320 GTS here, mainly being, because im pretty sure ill be needing to get a new card when all the dx10 games comes out, I non of us know, but that is my thinking for this build

If you're thinking about buying that ASUS, I'd suggest spending the same on one of the high-end EVGAs and getting far better customer support. There are much less expensive P35 boards to be had out there. The 680i boards are "unofficially" Penryn compatible if you're worried about that. Or, buy an NF63 board and just be willing to buy a more mature revision of the P35 boards if and when you decide to go quad core. Or go P35 now. There's really no way to lose.

The deluxe version of the P5K, as someone else suggested, is kind of a waste. Overpriced, unless you really just want all that stuff.

680i's overclock very well. So do the P35's, apparently. At least some of them.

If you're shooting for above 3.2Ghz and aren't willing to unlink the RAM then higher rated RAM may be worthwhile, but I personally would say it's a waste.

Paying up for a higher wattage PSU now is probably a good idea if you plan to swap out your video card in 6-8 months. Nobody knows what G92 power requirements will be yet, but I seriously doubt it'll be a /downward/ trend from the current generation, and headroom is never a bad thing.

hmm uneducated of what the P5Kdeluxe can do. Expensive? not so much. Evga 680i? for what you get? a headache? too many problems with that board.

P5K deluxe. you obviously havnt seen what it can do with overclocks. But what do I know.

Lets put it this way. P5K deluxe has shown higher FSB then most boards. your 680i's only benefit is SLI but then again. Thats a waste of money to me.

And for customer satisfaction from Asus. Honestly doesnt make their hardware any less valuable then what you make it out to be. Ive owned Asus from day 1. And guess what. No problems. So if all you can do is knock on Asus for bad customer service then. -1 for you. They make great products.

A second for Asus, 680i or otherwise.

With P35 you lose SLi- which is what I bought my GTS640 for- so I can put in a second. Same for the 620 Corsair.

Otherwise, P35 has shown to be the best overclocking chipset so far, behind 965. 680i still gets you decent overclocking, and is easier. I was amazed at how easy it is on my Asus.

Now- nobody has addressed memory timings. First thing I search for is the CAS rating; I don't buy anything slower than CAS 4. That usually means that you can relax to CAS 5 and overclock it. It also means that if you keep it at stock, and with a 680i you can and overclock the CPU away, you get tight timings. Just my .02 on ram though.

Also, I guess if you're planning to throw away your 8800 when the next gen comes out, 320MB's are fine- BUT, if you're planning to do the SLi route, get 640MB and 680i. This is where I'm headed- I'm pretty sure that will be able to handle whatever I throw at it for years to come, including the important stuff on the near horizon like Crysis, Unreal Tournament 3, and the next Half Life 2/Team Fortress 2 stuff, and Starcraft 2 whenever that comes out.
