command queueing on the raptors?

I have been waiting for ide/sata command queueing and I have been receiving conflicting things from different people. Hope somebody can clear this up. Does the raptor have command queueing like scsi disks? or is it still being worked on for disks in this year?

I've currently got a Raid0 setup /w 2 of the 100JB disks from wd... and ive been considering replaceing those with two 36 gb raptor drives, but wasn't sure if it supported CQ.

Come this summer.. i'll have a nice roomy 320 gb file server running on linux on my network... using samba (either if the new cq drives come out, or not.. im just gonna replace the two 100JB's with 80's from seagate if CQ doesn't fall through) :) mmmmm current uptime 40 days :p

It doesn't have Native CQ, only the old ATAPI-tunneled TCQ, which is what IBM/Hitachi has had for years.

"So these chips should provide the best basis for gauging performance, especially because Silicon also supports native command queuing. Although it is only achieved with software, it allows NCQ to be enabled instantly - all you need is a new driver."

I don't believe Tom's is correct here. I've also seen Storage Review say much the same thing but both appear to be regurgitating a WD press release.

In my understanding, and judging by some of MS' responses to questions on his board, honest-to-gawd NCQ is not supported by the Raptors, rather it is tunneled CQ as Snuggle suggested.

I look at it this way: Tom's could not test the NCQ functionality, and since the Raptors are definitely internally parallel, the command queuing implementation is going to be "natively" supported by the drive in firmware.
This doesn't sound like SATA NCQ at all, but rather PATA simple command (tunneled) queuing.

well that makes sense
Snugglebear is rarely wrong

whereas I....

:p

I have built-in failsafes. After so much lost sleep or too much stress, the times when I'm often wrong, I can't remember things like passwords to forums, much less to even visit them.
