Hello,

I have a HP LP3065 on the way to connect to my new Mac Pro. What is a good color calibrator. I see two entry level models in the Huey and the Spyder2Express. Is either one really better then they other. I'm not a professional photographer but I do play with my digital camera a lot so I would like to be able to print what I see on the screen.

TFT Central has reviewed the Heuy Pro and the Spyder so probably a good idea to check there for the outcome, IIRC I think the Huey Pro just nudged ahead.

I have used the huey pro and it is a very amateurish calibrator with a very very basic software package. The Eye-one display two will bring out the true glory of your HP panel.

I have the Eye1 Display also and it has been great for me. A nice bonus is that if you ever get an NEC monitor it will work with the Spectraview software.

Not a huge fan of the Spyder2Express,

Having used it on my monitors it turns dark greys into black, and is not a very high quality package.

It does the job, but it leaves ALOT to be desired.

You might want to spend a bit more and check out the EyeOne, as I've heard it's a good package for LCD displays especially.

The eye one not only works for your LCD/CRT, as a bonus it also works extremely well for calibrating plasmas and LCD tvs. I caliberated by HTPC with good result. Its definetely a good purchase. There are free softwares for it that allows you to measure your home's lighting quality in terms of Color Rendering index to see how good your home lighting can accurately reproduce color.

I have a used Spyder 2 Pro that I'm selling (I got an NEC that has it's own calibrator) if you are interested. Same hardware as the 2 express, just more software options such as variable white point and gamma.

What software allows you to measure CRI? I have the NEC i1Display 2 and would love to test some light bulbs I have.

How do you use it on a Plasma. Do you have to connect a computer to it ?

Here is all the info u need. You need to hook up the instrument to your laptop and download the DVD that generates pattern which must be played on a DVD player connected to your Plasma/TV.

Another person at AVS tested 3 instruments and the Eye One 2 produces the most superior results.

Software for measuring light quality:

Awesome,

Thanks for the info. I just received mine as part of the Spectraview II kit for the NEC so I will check out the associated functions and equipment that I can calibrate...
