The Call of Duty series was ruined for me when CoD3 came out. I tried playing CoD3 and I really didn't like it which was surprising because afaik the treyarch team that does their CoD installments is Gray Matter, the ones behind United Offensive which was an awesome expansion.
I enjoyed/played tons of CoD1/2 and UO. CoD4 was fun for a while, the perks and challenges were neat but it didn't have the lasting effect that all of the other cod games had. Sure, It got great reviews and it was a decent game but it just wasn't the same for me. Even the single player wasn't as good as the first 2 real installments. I have probably played through the campaigns in cod1/2 at least 10+ times each and played tons of multiplayer.
I found that it was a struggle for me to even finish cod4's campaign, it took me like 3 weeks to finish and I literally had to sit down and force myself to finish it just because I wanted to get it overwith. I haven't played it since and I don't plan on playing it again. The only mission that stood out to me or that I have any desire to play again is "All Ghillied Up"
I am really hoping treyarch works some of that united offensive magic back into CoD5 because if not, call of duty is just gonna become another mediocre yearly title like Medal of Honor has become. Which is ironic because most of infinity ward developed the first good original MoH games.
