I've searched all over the net and can't find the solution to get this to work. I have a USB headset, and in order to use it for CoD4, I have to go into control panel and change my playback to my headset.

Is there no way in the game's options to change it to my headset? In speaker config there is only, windows default, mono, stereo, 2.1 speaker, 5.1 speaker, and none of them gets my headset to work.

Someone please help, it's very damn fustrating.

AS long as playback is setup correctly in the control panel, windows default in the game should work....sorry can't be more help than that.

Unless your sound card is doing something weird...what sound card and what headset?

Logitech 350 Headset and Soundblaster Live!
I know if i get to the playback in the windows control panel and change it to logitech usb headset from soundblaster live! it will work, but do i have to do that everytime I want to use my headset with CoD4? It's kinda annoying.

make sure it's all changed and setup and tested to be working BEFORE you launch CoD4

With my old soundblaster it would mute my mic everytime I started up COD. So try alt/tabbing out of game and check windows sound settings and see if its muted.

Yea mine use to do that, but now it doesn't... any idea why?

USB headsets.. they don't use your soundcards hardware and you end up using a "software" soundcard instead. Not an ideal solution when you have a decent soundcard in your machine already.

I have a logitech 350 that I use from time to time, only thing you can do (to my knowledge) is to change it in control panel to the headset before opening up the game / ventrilo if you want both mic / sound going through the headset.
