The MP reveal for COD:BO was a bit of a letdown. Here are the details as I currently have them.

Server Stuff
- Will use dedicated servers (but not like we think of them for COD)
- Ranked servers limited to 18 players max $18 /month
- Unranked servers limited to 24 players max $24 /month
- NO ACCESS to server side files
- Will be able to control certain options such as hardcore vs. softcore, map rotation, server messages, etc.
- Gameservers.com are the ONLY approved server host (means we cannot run a BO server through NFO or Art of War, etc......ever)
- Must be signed into Steam to play
- Will use VAC anti-cheat
- Admin utility will be available
- Will have spectate mode
- Will have user console available (~) to change certain client-side variables
- Will have map editor available after release for the creation of custom maps for use in unranked servers

Gameplay
- Allows you to play in a training mode with "bots"
- New type of "dolphin dive" where you can make a running aerial dive into a prone position (imagine being able to dive through a window away from a firefight) Could be cool, could suck
- Create a class has 3 "bumpers". First allows you to pick your character class and customization and takes up Perk 1.
- Killstreaks are more interactive, like the R/C car with C4 on it, a controllable tomahawk missile, etc. (there is also a gatling gun as a killstreak called "Death Machine" ) SAM turret takes out airstrikes.
- Every time you play you earn "COD Points" (CP) and use them to unlock any weapon/perk at any level. So you can earn the points to unlock dead silence at level 3. No waiting to reach a certain level to get perks or weapons.
- You can buy challenges and if you complete them you get a crazy amount of COD Points.
- New gametype called "Wager" which allows you to "bet" a certain amount of your points against other players in a collective pool. The top 3 players split the winnings by order of how they finish.
- New "Wager" mode called "One in the Chamber" Each player has a pistol and one bullet. Kill an enemy, you get another bullet. Miss and you have to knife them. You get 3 lives. (actually sounds fun)
- New "Wager" mode called "Sticks and Stones" You get a crossbow, a knife and a tomahawk. Kill them with the tomahawk and you bankrupt them and take all their COD Points.
- New "Wager" mode called "Gun Game" You start with a knife and progress up thru the different weapons
- New "Wager" mode called "Sharp Shooter" Each player is given a single random weapon. All players are given the same weapon. Weapon used changes after a certain amount of time. Forces players to get familiar with different weapons.
- Weapons are customizable with different camos or logos (clan tags). Sights are also customizable. Red dot doesn't have to be red or just a dot.
- Has in-game emblem editor. Gain COD Points to use them and place them on your weapons.
- Has in-game battle recorder. Records up to 10 sequences and can be edited. (not sure what you do with them once you have them. Don't know if they can be downloaded or posted on a website for instance) Will be able to use first or third person or 3D world view
- Will have zombie mode
- There be will NO BETA
- Headshots and score from killstreaks also add to team score as well as individual player
- Multiple zoom lengths for snipers. Many CoD4 mods had this one.
- Your character gets a personalized motion sensor and a signal Jammer.
- /record will be active to allow admins to spec players and record demo footage as evidence

Perks

1st perk: These all affect your character appearance

Lightweight
Scavenger
Ghost (~Cold-Blooded / Ghillie suit)
FlakJacket (as found in CoD:WW...lowers explosive damage)
Hardline

2nd perk:

Hardened (?)
Scout (?)
Steady Aim
Sleight of Hand
Warlord (aka Bling)

3rd perk:

Marathon
Ninja
Second Chance
Hacker (this one should be interesting )
Tactical Mask (probably like Bomb Squad)

KillStreaks

3 kills - RC Explosive Device (RC XD)
4 kills - Care Package
5 kills - "Archangel" (Don't know what this is)
? kills - Artillery
? kills - flyable helicopter
? kills - Large area impact Napalm Strike

Weapons (Probably not a complete list)

Assault Rifles
- CAR-15
- AK47
- Steyr AUG
- M16A1
- G11
- Pump action grenade launcher
- FAMAS G2

SMGs
- MAC10
- MP5k
- AK74U

LMGs
- M60
- RPK

Shotguns
- SPAS-12

Launchers
- RPG-7
- M202 Rocket Launcher

Maps (only 3 have been confirmed so far)

- "Radiation" is based in an abandoned power station
- "Summit" is in a snowbound mountain base
- "Launch" is staged around a rocket which lifts off during gameplay, hence frying anyone underneath it

Two BIG problems with this: 1. The use of VAC. And 2. The fact that you can only get a server through GameServers.com.

VAC has been proven from MW2 to be ineffective against hackers. I was told tonight by a couple of the fellows over at BashandSlash.com that there are admin tools available that let you kick/ban problem players from your server, so it may not be all bad if the tools currently in the wild will be updated to support BO. These tools obviously wouldn't work for MW2 due to the lack of centralized servers - there was nothing (no server) to log in to.

The fact that GS will be the only server provider is going to be a big hassle for those of us who have game servers through other companies. This really is just a pain in the ass more than anything. Having to go to multiple places to deal with your servers just plain sucks. I can't speak for anyone else, but I've had servers with those folks before, and I have to say I wasn't impressed. There were multiple lag and stability issues as well as the fact that getting customer support was a chore at best. I don't see how GS can possibly have the infrastructure to add hundreds if not thousands of game servers in that short of a time span and not run out of hardware resources or bandwidth or both. Activision/Treyarch must be sending a lot of cash in GS.com's direction. I think that several other GSPs should enter a class action lawsuit against GS.com, Activision and Treyarch for anti-competitive practices. It's the same thing as only being able to buy bread and milk from Wal-Mart and no place else is allowed to sell it. It's a monopoly. IMO, this is another way for Activision to continue their strategy of keeping as much control as possible of the game, not allow for community innovation, and make as much money as possible, while completely kicking PC gamers in the nuts. Which is bullshit seeing as how the CoD franchise was born and bred on the PC. Talk about forgetting your roots.

All in all, I think the game is going to be good. Not great, but good. How Activision is handling it is a crime, and has the potential to be the death of the franchise on the PC. I had hoped that Treyarch wouldn't follow in the same path as IW, but it's clear that Activision is calling the shots.

but all that isn't what REALLY matters here. the thing that should matter to PC players is: how much is activision going to charge for the pay-to-play service or "premium" service? or, how much will it cost to play on dedicated servers? also, no beta is troubling, IMO

No word on that yet. It seems as though BO managed to dodge that bullet. The pay to play model may rear its ugly head in a future title. But let's cross our fingers and hope it never comes.

This multiplayer "reveal" has disappointed me... it didn't reveal that much.

I'm done with the whole kill streak perks. It takes the skill out of the game.
A player shouldn't have access to anything additional beyond the class they start with, mounted guns and vehicles.
That's why BFBC2 is better IMO. (Picking up other player weapons is fine)

What Thee Fuck?! I could have sworn they were telling everyone that we'd be able to host our own dedicated servers on our own machines just a couple months ago!

18 players is way too small for my tastes so I will be passing until I find it cheap.

it's a mod so who carez ? :p at least it won't be a shitty as MW2 even with all those problems, that's what counts, we haven't seen a proper cod on PC since 2007 or maybe 2003 if you ask me

Gug, so they put sprinkles on the pile of shit that was MW2 to mask the smell......not buying this garbage until its in the bargain bin.

looks good to me. the new "Wager" game modes sound fun as hell.

People are too quick to jump to conclusions. Until you have ALL the details about it, save your whining.

You only make yourselves look like those losers who hate COD because it's cool to hate COD.

"- Ranked servers limited to 18 players
- Unranked servers limited to 24 players"

if that is the case, fuck that game.

I'm a little disappointed by low number of players with dedicated servers too, so i'll sit back until i find good deal on it. Or maybe with modding people will be able to increase number of players themselves?

So if I look at what appears to be a turd, sniff it and it smells like a turd, lick it and it tastes like a turd, I should still shove the whole turd into my mouth just to be sure?

Give me a break. There's enough information here to easily see that they are on the wrong track even if we don't know "all the details."

And please... CoD, or more importantly, Activision & Infinity Ward are hated not because it's "cool" but because they are systematically taking away some of the very best things about what gaming on the PC has always been about.

The amount of players quoted is for the Xbox 360 version, not PC. They stated the PC would have a higher count of players, we just don't know what yet. I'm just said that we don't have access to the dedicated files again, but it seems that Activision is calling the shots on that.

Lastly, only GS.com can rent the servers??????? That's weak.

i suggest not getting too hung up on the player count. without knowing the map size it's difficult to determine what a 'good' player count would be. MW2 feels just fine with 12-18 players, believe me it's plenty hectic and there's no shortages of enemies to kill. i've played them all - BF1942/2/2142, COD 1/2/4/5, TF2, BC2 etc....and MW2, with it's low player-count, feels just as populated as the rest of them. i imagine COD:BO will feel the same.

I never played MW2, so i'll take your word for it.

A check on GS.com's preorder page shows that ranked servers are only available in 18 slots, and unranked are limited to only 24 slots. Unless they are just using those numbers as a placeholder until they have a full understanding of hardware resource usage, sounds like a good indicator of PC game size limits to me.

Did you really just spell cares with a z? It's lame that they steal some modders' ideas, blatantly throw it into their game and make a profit off of it with no recognition to the original modders.

its lame that we are limited to valve anti cheat. i dont know why they wouldnt allow punkbuster. i have never ever heard of anyone getting banned from mw2 by valve anti cheat except when they accidentally banned those 10000 accounts. i hope that server admins will still be able to ban anyone who is blatantly cheating.

also will admins be able to disable guns? would be nice to get rid of grenade launchers imo. also didnt see any mention of noobtubes?

everyone who is crying about the 18-24 player limit needs to get over it. if the maps are anything like modern warfare 2 then they are going to be too small to handle any more players. i know that ground war is too crowded with its 18 players cap as it is.

Looks like another monopoly, all about control. So no mods, or user made maps, fuck em what a bunch of c*nts.

Isn't this the exact same system as BFBC2 except they have more providers?

Pretty much.

Also @ people raging over 18 max players. Really? This is COD, not Battlefield. 9vs9 is plenty people for COD's (small) maps.

Figures. Typical fanboys and hypocrisy. Dice/EA does pretty much the exact same thing and they are heralded. Activision does it and they are condemned.

That's just a placeholder, its not concrete. And looks like I was correct. They just stated the PC player count has not been finalized yet.

"Max player counts have not been finalized for ranked or unranked servers. This happens late in the project by design. #codblackops #pc"

Still bummed about not being able to run my own servers though ;(

Must be signed into Steam to play WTF ???

Total BF2 BS...make it 3 seconds to stand up and can't fire during that time....NO we will have bouncing betties everywhere.
this will be pure loose

Dice/EA does pretty much the exact same thing and they are heralded. Activision does it and they are condemned.

In the video he said right out "This game mode came from the community." They never pretended it was their idea.

Sparks, quality literature such as yours shouldn't be permitted for reading on the bus at 12:26 pm, because I just laughed loudly.

It's hugely amusing.

And on that note, lose, not loose.

I'm still holding a little hope for the game. I'll be borrowing it from one of of my console using friends to decide whether or not to pick it up on pc

Looks good, I just hope it flows a little bit better than WaW.

I'm looking foward to it but I wish they would take the Fucking restrictions off the game. When will these publishers learn pc gamers don't want limits and rules. We want freedom. I bet they'll learn when pc games learn to stop pirating software. Both of which aren't ever to likely happen.

games are pirated on 360 long before they hit pc, come again. those people don't want to pay no matter what you do.

Wow thats effing lame, I wont be buying this POS even when its in the 5$ bargain bin. We need to stop supporting these shitty companies and the crap they do that is killing PC gaming for everyone. Only dedicated servers through 1 company? What did they sell that option to the server host that bid the most money to have the exclusive option? Either way its a load of crap and I will never give them a dime, especially when they start Pay-to-play on servers they arent even running. If people dont do something now and stop supporting these shitty policies we are all going to be sorry soon.
