Well I just finished that SP level where you''re a sniper and you've got another lame sniper with you. That's the one next to the ferris wheel. In the end you gotta carry your lame buddy to the chopper - if you live that is.

Anyhow you gotta fight off waves after waves of enemies - i mean dozens (may be 50-70 enemies and dogs).

How realistic is that?

Take for example what happened those 2 elite Delta members (Gordan & Shugart) in Somalia - they got owned by probably less than what I was facing.

I know it's game but it should strive to be somewhat realistic.

Ok </RANT>

Nuff said.

It's a video game.

there have been tons of cases where a few soldiers take out hundreds and even thousands of enemies by themselves. im not saying the game is super realistic, ive never been in combat so i wouldnt know (have you?) but what youre bringing up isnt too farfetched at all

if they could have controlled their own actions with a mouse and keyboard they may have faired better. ITS A VIDEO GAME. usually realistic is NOT fun. would you like like to stop your video game soldier to eat and take a piss, maybe change his underwear. that would be realistic.

probably would be pretty boring if you only killed off maybe 10guys then just sat there for 4mins twidling your thumbs

Nobody's ever claimed that it was or was meant to be realistic, only modern. What's the problem, chum?

Also; from now on, post any more quibbles you have in one of your existing threads. You seem to have about five on the go, all for marginally different aspects of the same game. Calm yourself down a touch.

Hundreds or thousands by themselves ? I don't know about that. Usually when you read about one lone infantryman taking out "only" a couple dozen by themselves, they don't live through it and end up getting some medal posthumously. It goes without saying COD4 is not realistic.

They're boring, because real life is boring.

That's why we play video games.

Same thing goes for books, TV shows, and movies. Everything is embellished because we don't want to spend our real life reading or watching about real life.

*insert chuck norris joke

Chuck Norris once impregnated your mother just by looking at her. He then proceeded to perform an abortion by roundhouse kicking her in the face and screaming, "There can be only one!!!!!!"

Oh wait, that may not apply here....

Highlander quotes always apply.

Nothing is more awesome than a mixture of Chuck Norris and Connor MacLeod.

Except the mongols that watch shit like Big Brother and this Beauty and the Geek bollocks.

Also, of course some delta something members got "owned" by less than what you're facing, you're playing an SAS bloke. Man up - or, to put it in simpler terms that could be understood by untrained cannon-fodder: OORAH. HOOAH GOURAGH OMGGURRRRR

Don't go by the movie...the movie is inaccurate. Go by Bowden's book. Shugart and Gordon probably killed 150+ Somalis before they were overtaken...beaten, and their dead bodies dragged through the streets. (side note, they used M21 sniper rifles as opposed to the standard issue 24s as the M21 had a 7.62 round, and some serious stopping power against people so high they couldn't feel pain. Other rangers/deltas didn't understand why they used old rifles until they got into combat. I imagine many Iraq vets can attest to the M14 being superior to the M16/M4 simply because of stopping power. Who cares if its light and plastic if it cannot kill?)

Know what else the movie got wrong? The other crew of the chopper was alive after the crash. The copilot had a bad back, his back was broken. The chopper landed on its struts, and the blackhawk did just as Sikorsky designed it to do - absorb multiple Gs of acceleration (deceleration) - the Somalis killed all of the crew, save Durant. Gotta love Hollywood and politics, eh?

But yes, that level in COD4 pissed me off. AMAZING reproduction of Pripyat - go look at the pictures. I enjoyed being able to take a little time around the pool and all, it was an amazing job they did making that...but the end challenge sucked. Took me a good 10 tries, involving different claymore placings and C4 usage.

I thought COD4 had great potential, buts its straight up arcade gameplay probably appeals to a more braindead(ala NASCAR fan) player.
Run and gun, run and gun, wave after wave of respawning enemies.

run and gun? more like (american) football then.... I must be brain dead dur durrrr!!

If it was 'run and gun' for you, you played it on too low a difficulty setting.

Many of us actually leave our house and go to work, so when we come home, we sometimes want to stop using our brains for awhile.

;)

I thought it was pretty good. The sp was short and I haven't got to play the mp yet. Yeah the overwhelming amount of enemies there at the farris wheel was nutz.

If the game is realistic, American and British can dominate the world.

it gets worse with master chief and gordan freeman.

You should read S.O.G by Col. John Plaster. One guy in particular, Bob Howard (won the Medal of Honor) makes Rambo look like a complete puss. They mentioned at one point in the book that for every S.O.G recon guy killed there were something like 250 confirmed enemy dead, and in Vietnam/Laos/Cambodia, I reckon that there were far more enemy dead than could be accurately confirmed.

Not to get OT further, but that would mean they would have had to have fired 75 rounds a piece and gotten fatal wounds on each assailant. How likely is that?

Anyways, I think the question in this thread shouldn't be how realistic something is (video games are illusions), but rather whether being attacked by endless waves of guys is even fun in video games these days. COD1, 2, 3, and now 4 all have at least one "hold out" level... its getting very old.

are you guys serious? I held out the entire wave without claymores the first time because I didnt even hear the guy mention them and beat it on the first try. There's a dragonov right next to the car on the left of your position (if you were on the ferris wheel) that you can use to finish off the rest of the enemies after your initial rifle runs out of ammo.

All you really have to do is be patient with shooting. Wait for 2-3 enemies to emerge and line up so you can take all of them down with one well placed shot. All I did was point and click. Hell, I didnt even use shift to steady my aim, i just compensated for it as I shot. I believe after I finished during the first attempt, I still had rifle ammo left and never even bothered picking up any enemy guns.

Yeah, because 10 of the most retarded people available being trapped in a house and watched 24/7 with a prize on the line is just like real life... oh wait.

:D

75 rounds is only 4 mags or so. They carry more in the order of 8-10. So yes that is plausable.

isn't so simple on the realistic mode...
