Hey,
I built my PC in late 07 and was running fine till earlier this year... stopped using it as often so wasn't really as much of a problem. Anyway, everytime I wanted to boot I had to clear the CMOS otherwise the fans would just run at full power and it wouldnt boot properly. Then I would have to clear the cmos every single time. I have an abit ip35 pro board. Anyway, thought it might be I needed a new CMOS battery but was reading around yesterday and saw something about changing ram voltage. I changed it from 1.8v to 2.0v and it now seems to be working fine. I have 2x1 gig ddr2-800. Why would this be? I bought one of the CR2032 batteries today as it was only £0.99. Any explanations? Should I still change the battery?
 
Sound like either:

1. stick of RAM is going bad.

2. RAM needs to be reseated

3. power supply is not putting out enough power
 
got corsair hx520w, think my ram wasnt the most expensive round at the time... probably would be ram... apparently as the mobo wasnt losing time i dont need to change the battery... would this be wise and just keep the one i bought back for a later date? would you say it's fine or worth getting new ram now?
 
Nah... would this just suddenly happen though? Hadn't changed anything... and would it really make much a difference running at 2v instead of 1.8v or should it all be fine?
 
I had issues like this and it was the RAM going bad. Some batches of Crucial Ballistix just sucked for me. I kept having to bump the voltage until the RAM finally kicked the bucket. Replaced it and it's been fine ever since.
