Recently I lowered my very stable OC'ing which you see in my
sig. Its been stable for 16 months. I was wondering if lowering
my clock is whats causing it to crash when I first fire up. I lowered
it from 4.2GHz down to 4.0 and left all the volts and everything
else alone. Like I said all I change was the FSB from 467x9
to 450x9.

Everything is good on the second boot. I don't know where else
to begin. I did my first reg clean after 16 months of service
on this build and that never helped. Someone told me that
my RAID O could be loosing sync. Or is Vista finally haunting
me? Any ideas?
 
Offhand as a first guess I would take a look at the memory mulitplier, those things love to change memory speed when you are not looking. I am guessing when you changed the FSB the memory multiplier/ratio was on AUTO and it decided to go to another ratio your memory does not like. Or not.
 
Thanks. That's a very good guess, and that's what I thought at first but
it stayed the same.

Doh stupid me for not reading more carefully...
Everything is good on the second boot.

The automatic reboot and restart after changing (almost any frequecny related) bios settings is perfectly normal. The machine was just reseting a bunch of stuff you dont see in the bios to help accomodate your new FSB setting. All intel chipset boards will do this since the P965 boards if you make big enough changes. Make a decent change, save and exit, machine shuts down, acts like it is coming back on and then reboots itself and comes up. Normal.

Save the specs in your bios and default all settings to default. reboot and check to verify the cpu settings and memory settings are default and see if that solves the problem. if it does the problem is obviously in your settings. So redo your setting on your cpu leaving the memory settings and see if that boots okay then adjust your memory. remember to adj voltages as yu make chgs
