P35 is cheaper and just about as good as X38.

P35 ftw

WRONG! Thanks for playing.

The P35 chipset has fewer PCIe lanes and doesn't support PCIe 2.0 It also doesn't support Intel's XMP technology, X38 does. Again I say, X38 is the best chipset out of those listed. P35 is a great chipset and if you don't need SLI or Crossfire it is an excellent choice. However don't kid yourself for one second about it being better than X38 because it isn't. It is however just as good in some scenarios, but clearly inferior in others.

Concerning the poll the individual who voted P35 doesn't have all their facts apparently. The P35 chipset is the current best value solution but it isn't the "best chipset" and neither is X38. Currently that honor falls to the X48 chipset as boards based on it officially support the 1600MHz FSB required by the QX9770.

X38 overclocks as well as P35 and has PCI-Express 2.0 support and additional PCIe lanes. That makes it better than P35.

It doesn't say "best performance." It says best, which can include other factors such as price, etc. P35 is better than X38 for most of us because it is much cheaper and still does what most of us need it to.

Actually the X38 chipset is the best in terms of capabilities, features and performance. The only category it falters on compared to the P35 is price.

which, like I said, makes the P35 better for many of us. Take P35, add a bunch of stuff most of us don't need, jack up the price and you have X38. P35 is best for me.
