Chipset driver and Windows 7

I have this mobo. Do I even need to manually install the chipset driver or does Windows 7 install the best / most recent one automatically?

Windows 7 will install the best suited driver by default, it may or may not be the latest but that is an older motherboard and it will have some type of driver for it.

Well, I guess that leads me to another question I find myself asking - is it best to use the driver right from the chipset manufacturer or from the mobo manufacturer?

I stick with what the motherboard company provides, unless there's a good (proven) reason to get a different one from the chipset company.

I always check the chipset manufacturer's website for the latest drivers.

This.

I've always had better experiences using the latest driver from the chipset manufacturer than the 2 versions ago hacked (or just rolled up differently) Motherboard manufacturer driver.

Though you probably wouldn't notice a difference using the Default/Windows Update drivers versus the latest from downloadcenter.intel.com :)
Search for your chipset and you'll be good to go!

The wonders of the internet: 3 different answers.

I've tried all three at some point in my day and the control freak in me wants to install the chipset manually and in the "right order" (chipset, video driver, sound driver, windows updates). So that eliminates the Windows updates option. And I've found Gigabyte's website to be a bit strange and unresponsive so I guess I've just answered my own question :) Thanks for the help

You're welcome. :D

IMO this is the best way to do it.

That's what makes it fun. :)

I always go directly to the chipset manfgs site for the latest drivers.

Me too always go to the chipset manufacturer for the newest drivers especially chipset drivers and video card drivers..
