Chimp Challenge Team Problems

Take a message from folder catz:

Hey Connundrum1, don't feel bad about usin' that "Faux Pas" thing. Up until I read the meaning just now, I thought it meant some kinda' super "French ketchup".

On the serious side, I agree with you 100% and I too congratulate Anderu for his mil benchmark and in a semi free society he is well within his rights to fold under his username or the username of somebody else ;)

Edit: Oh yeah, talk about human goofs. When I first started folding for another team and left it about a year ago I did over react to some smack talk and "showed my rear end" by quiting that team and joining this one (IMO I lucked out by getting on team 33) The point is you're right about developing a "thicker skin" (to me that just means more understanding and respecting others opinions) because no matter where you go, no matter what you do there's always gonna' be sombody that holds a different perspective than yours. (my "soap box" is gettin' wore out so I'll cease )

Wow, people blow things way outta proportion here, Yes it was a little bit of a Faux Pas (is that right? i'm a male and never use that term) for Anderu to post about his achievement but still well within his rights even if he knew about the CC. Most people in the thread congratulated him and then nudged him the way of the Ape. There were some posts that were a little negative but get over it or talk to the individuals you have a problem with privately.

For those of you who got so offended as to pull your boxen, you have to grow a little thicker skin as this is the internet, We have a very nice community here but you gotta take more in stride and not let minor things bother you. I think its even worse that you pulled your boxen instead of being the bigger man, pointing out the problems and continuing on the course to try to beat MPC.

I for one will say congrats Anderu, and I suggest you check out the challenge as the rest of us need all the help we can get.

The posts in Anderu's thread are not the reason for me starting this thread, they were the final straw. For the last week I've seen people complaining and being downright rude because some of the members of this team didn't change over the folding name of their machines.

It doesn't matter who you are or what contest it is, it's not anyone's damn right to demand that people change the name on their clients over. It's not anyone's damn right to expect someone else's points go to a certain contest. That's the problem here. People were demanding and expecting this. Even after several not very subtle hints by myself and others they still didn't get the damn message.

Hell, this was the first time I've ever had my clients crunching under a name other than mine. Instead of being grateful for so many people doing this, they complained about people that weren't doing what they wanted.

I don't need to grow a thicker skin. I've taken plenty of shit worse than this before and I'll take more shit a hell of a lot worse than this. If you don't like the fact that I pulled my machines from the contest, then so be it. However, I'm not going to participate in a contest that continues to foster the demeaning of other members of this team. Myself and others have already pointed out this problem and it kept on going. That's why I pulled my systems and made a scene in the process. Slapping it in everyone's face seemed to be the only way to get the point across.

Anderu, I know some reasons why you stay away from the forums and I apologize for highlighting your thread in a way it wasn't meant to be intended. It just happened to be the final straw for something that has been going on.

You'd all be naive to think that this is the first or last time this team will eat one another from within...

You should all be ashamed of yourselves the way you treated Anderu yesterday. The man has done more for our cause than most of you will in a lifetime, combined!

Want to end the insanity?

Take the Blue Pill

Now now gents, this thread doesnt have to go off track as well :)

I like your sig....nice and subtle;)

That being said, I was a lurker here for quite a while before I became active here on the forum and the team, and I think that there are many others here that are the same. I was here when the shit hit the fan last year (sitting quietly on the sidelines) and if we, as a team allow this little contest to fuck up everything up again, that's just sad. We lost a lot of really great people over that scuffle and I don't want to see that happen again.... please.

Let's just let this be... it's over and let's move on, together. We can't go back and un-say things that were said, so just learn from it, and listen to WGM. Unfortunately if things don't stop right now, he's right, it's happened before and it could happen again. Smoke has made a very valid point here and I think we all need to sit back and think about it for a while before anything else is said.

We're a team, get it? Let's get back to that and have some fun, okay?

Now....if I can just find my damn beer.... I know I left it here somewhere;)

No worries.

Anyone who has been around for a while, knows when things get like this, I just don't play into it. As for how I fold, I do what I can, the way that I choose. I always have. I don't even have a problem with someone who does not care for that philosophy. But I will not be drawn into a debate about it.

I sort of have an issue with this. Aren't we Team 33? I know it's supposed to be about the science and not the points, but we are members of a team. If it wasn't at least somewhat about the points, we wouldn't Fold under a particular name, we wouldn't boast about and congratulate one another when we reach a milestone, and we certainly wouldn't join a team.

Isn't the whole point of a team to work together for a common goal? Seems to me Folding as a team in a competition against other teams would be the whole point of being on a team in the first place.

Competition can be considered different from one person to another. Anderu folds for the [H]orde just like he ran UD for the [H]orde previously. If I remember correctly, he easily had first place on the [H]orde UD team.

The competition can be between individuals or teams or whatever. Like Anderu, I choose to fold for the [H]orde to give this team the points I am going to produce. I would still produce the points and the science even if I did not belong to this team.

There is one reason I've been with this team for as long as I have and through two projects (which I have participated in): The Community. This breaks down into the individuals. A team is nothing but individuals who come together for a common reason. In this case it's folding. While we may be here for a common goal, there are other reasons why many of us fold and how we decide to go about it. Basically, I stay here because of the team members. Without the people who have been here longer than myself and the brand new people, I wouldn't stay.

Back when SETI first started, I participated in that program but I didn't join a team. I just ran it for myself as I didn't have a team I felt like joining. That is not the case here. I found a team worth my time and money and I donate my points to the team total while producing them for myself.

Also, leave Anderu out of this. This thread isn't about him or anyone in particular (outside of me since I started it). He sits back and quietly folds for his reasons. There is no reason to call him out on anything.

Im a relatively new participator here (long time lurker) and I should probably let this post just die, so I will apologize in advance if I revive this post and it gets even more out of hand. Just thought that it might be important to gain some perspective from a relative newcomer.

Smoke - No disrespect meant here, but dont you think you are blowing this out of proportion? I mean I think that you have mixed up disrespect with competitive enthusiasm. I mean we all wanted to win the CC and of course not everyone has the means to switch over their boxen. I think we all get that. I didnt see any posts in here over the course of the challenge that rubbed me the wrong way. Part of being a team is knowing that you can count on your fellow teammates and so I think thats why a few posts might have "pushed a little hard". Were a few posts maybe made with maybe a wrong tone? Yeah maybe. But I honestly dont think that anyone meant any hard feelings. We all understand that at the end of the day folding = the greater good. But it was a contest and that brings out the competitive side in people. You have made it sound like there has been name calling and bashing people because they didn't participate in the CC.

I don't care if I piss anyone off but I'm not going to sit around and basically be a part of the bullshit I've seen anymore.

IMO this comment from you, not caring about who you might piss off is, worse that anything else that has happened this week. I think you have made things worse with your post today rather than better. Is bailing on your teammates really the way to fix this? Would there possible have been a better way to handle this?

Anyway - A little poo slinging and joking for some good clean fun with the other teams involved has been great this past week. I have been proud to be a part of it. I personally want to thank the Horde for a great week (both long time members and all the new members that have signed on). For having never been in the contest I think that we did quite well. I am interested in folding now more than ever! Thanks again.

I think smoke makes fair comment.
Its good to get this sort of behaviour curtailed before it becomes the norm, the feel good factor needs to be kept up or disillusion sets in.
After all many people are putting in a LOT of effort and we want to attract new recruits, not make them go elsewhere by persistently arguing.

But there has been some bashing going on and myself and others in a nice way told the people to stop. Some did, some didn't. That's why I'm pissed and rightfully so. I have not mixed up enthusiasm and disrespect. Taking enthusiasm too far crosses the line into disrespect.

I have seen plenty of posts in the last week where people were basically demanding that everyone switch their systems over; hell, there were even threads started because of it. I never would have started this thread if the shit had stopped, but yet today there was another post about it in a completely unrelated thread and it was nothing but threadcrapping on someone that was celebrating a milestone. Anything like that is going way too far in my book.

I have already stated, other ways were tried to stop this crap. Some people got the message and some people didn't. This was the next step. Yep, it's out in the open for everyone to see just the way it should be. The problem posts are here for the world to see and this way the problem does not get ignored.

My comment about not giving a shit about what people think of me is nothing but the truth. I don't give a damn if you hate my guts. What most people think of me doesn't affect me in one bit. I said it to emphasize how pissed off I am over this. I said it because I mean it. I don't see how it could be any worse than the way people were talking down on those who weren't switching their systems over because what I said is fact. What other people were saying and inferring was demeaning and petty.

As most people know, I'm usually quiet and take a back seat letting things move along of their own accord. But damnit, don't piss me off because I will speak up, I will make sure I am heard and I make damn sure I'm right before I open my mouth. I've seen some shitty things going on in this forum regarding members lately and I wasn't putting up with it anymore.

Also, I didn't bail on anyone. I pulled my machines off of the challenge because I'm not going to put my resources towards something that is causing harm. I have morals and standards and I follow them no matter what I do and that includes folding.

/pulls beer cart up

Damn, I go away for the weekend and.....

/sigh

As digi said.... We point our boxen to where we want to.

I'm just glad that we are still a team and I do think because of the challenge we picked up a number of new folders and boxen.

I don't think I put anyone off with my enthusiasm for the Ape.. if I did sorry. :p

Fold on everyone!

Note: My opinions are these of mine and only mine.

To some who thinks we as a team should have an unified goal as a whole by being part of the CC and some other challenges that may be present from time to time. I would like to say that as a team I don't consider myself as one who has a duty to comply with such assumptions. I'm in this team only for the community itself, which at times can be helpful and some compeitions are sure nice from time to time but we should not force one or any other to be involved. For instance, I wished I would be able to get involved with CC but I'm having some issues or so to speak but I didn't really share that and I just mind my own business since I'm only here for the community and the greater good but not for the team, that alone is just a distant second.

If I wished to do the WCG, for which we do have a team under, and then somebody gets on me for not folding for the CC. I'll promptly tell them fuck off - depending on how they jump on me, if they ask nicely then maybe it'll have a better result rather than demanding on some level.

I would like to remind everybody around here that everything we do here are not required by any guidelines as our team does not have a guideline on how to be involved with the DC Subforum. By definition DC could mean many things, just that F@H, WCG and UD are either currently or were sanctioned by Kyle himself in terms of having an official team for [H]ard|OCP.

Only Kyle himself can impose such "guidelines" for such behaviors / rules that are to be followed on the inside of the forum itself. As far as I know there are no such guide but the general forum rules of which we all have to abide by.

Please remember the entire projects whenever it is F@H, WCG, UD and any other for that matter, it's voluntary.

It's just that VOLUNTARY.
