About a week ago my computer froze or appeared to freeze. The mouse wasn't moving but before I reset i realized that neither keyboard nor mouse was receiving power. when I went to restart it all I got was the Check Signal Cable error on my monitor.

I am using EVGA nForce 780i SLi FTW motherboard with an Intel core 2 duo e8500 Wolfsdale CPU. Both the mouse and keyboard that went powerless are USB not PS2. What is odd is that they do not work when I plug a USB cell phone charger in it does work.

All the leds and fans work on the motherboard and the display on it says FF (for successful boot).

When it turns on there is no sound indicating POST.

I have tried changing out the RAM, a new power supply, and a new graphics card. I was wondering apart from either getting a new CPU or Motherboard to test those theories someone may help me narrow it down between those two items with something I am forgetting to do.

If you have all new components other than the motherboard, I'd swap that out. You can try taking it out of the case and seeing if its shorted somewhere first before getting a new one.

I should have included that It had all worked just fine for about 7 months prior. Tried swapping out everything but the CPU and motherboard since I don't have replacements for those. Removing from case was ineffective.

I would guess the motherboard got fried somewhere along the lines. I guess you can send it in to EVGA though. That is the advantage of having an EVGA motherboard.

Looks like the USB ports are providing power but the data is not getting anywhere. Try a CMOS reset and then re-flashing the BIOS to the latest version. If this doesn't work, time to RMA.
