Cheap power?

I'm not completely sure why but for some reason I ordered THREE more of those 1100w PSU's. I chopped one of my power switch cables and twisted the wires together to quickly silence this bad boy by connecting C2 and C3. Instead of soldering or anything I just slipped the power switch thing on and twisted wires together. That horrible noise is now gone and the fans are still going at a decent speed. My rack will have to kick those laundry bins out of the room in favor of a couple more racks. I have 3 20 amp circuits and 1 15 in that room. I'm been saying I need to build a rack over at my in laws but I haven't yet.
 
Which ones did you get? I have fanless ones, think i'd rather a big watt model with a fan.

These dells I have that came with the fans just to connecting 2 pins to take the fans from full blast down to a very reasonable level. I just finished wiring up my THIRD one of these and a lesson that I have learned is DO NOT put an 8 pin and a 6 pin connector on a 12AWG speaker wire. I just noticed that they're running hot on the one I am powering my new 290's with. a pair of 6 pin connectors work great though. Instead of messing with those metal pins you can see from the outside I went under the PCB and connected everything to the pins that stick out the bottom. Doing this carefully and then covering my soldering with hot glue I can seal these back up in the case just fine.
 
I made all of my wires with 10 and 16 awg, I love overkill lol.

Still haven't put all my stuff together. Life got extremely busy, quickly.
 
had what sounded like a capacitor blow up inside one of these shortly after pluggin in I have to move the wires to the next PSU and send the bad one back
 
Basically when you're buying server PSU's those 600w area dells are seriously about worthless. They'll power a couple cards but just don't bother wasting a power plug on them since they don't have fans and you have to cool them yourself. I have unplugged my lil guy cause they've caused me to reboot a machine to bring the cards back up a few times. The big 1100w ones haven't given me any issues at all and if I had wired up for 240v they'd be pushing near 1600w so unless you guys can find a bigger 120/240v capable PSU that also has fans I'm going to suggest those as the one to buy. Even if I had to drop a sizeable chunk of cash I'd love to find bigger PSU's.
 
Got a part number for the dells you've finally settled on?

I don't use the backplane connectors. I've started using the power on switches that I have a ton of and just fitting the pin connectors over the pins I need and twisting the wire together and dabbing a lil solder on to solidify the connection. As for the power cords I'm soldering to the pins on the bottom of the PCB. I'm also using on of those power connectors for the fan silencer.

I'm going to try to find those crimp connectors though for the next PSU
