Ok, I've never been let down before by this board so here we go!

I would like to build a computer for my fiance for christmas and I haven't been keeping up with hardware since my last build 2.5 years ago. I would like to spend somewhere around $400-500. Her usage will be pretty basic, mostly web browsing and some video/music, so I don't need a top of the line video card. I already have the monitor and operating system, so those can be left out.

Thanks for your help, I look forward to the responses.

For your GF's relatively light usage, you're better off getting a prebuilt

how about a nettop? zotac has some good ones, all you need is the ram and hard drive.

For $400-500 I'd consider just getting a laptop.

EDIT: Whoa this thread is 2 weeks old. OP did you buy a system already?
