I am going to be upgrading my sytem in the vid department and i was wondering what would have better performance, or would be slightly more future friendly (ie; lasting for at least a year and playing games at near max settings at 1400x1050)?

I also heardsometihng about x1900gt's being able to be flahed into XT's. is this true?

One of the reviews (of the 1950xt) asked the same question ... and he said he would definately take a 1950xt over a CF setup of 2 1900gt's

Supposedly the 1900gt (unlocking ability is VERY rare ... meaning like 1/100) Have to read the 80 pages of thread over at techpowerup

I'd get the X1950XT for that low of a resolution. 1 card should be plenty. I use my X1900XT on a 1920x1200 widescreen and don't have any issues unless the game is super graphically intense. The X1950 should be fine for 1440x1050.

Both cards should let you play at max settings at that resolution. However, the price difference between the cards is staggering. The GT is going for slightly less than $300 depending on where you go and the X1950 (XTX or Crossfire, they have the same MSRP) will go for about $200 more depending again on brand and which retailer you go to.

There is no difference between the X1950 Crossfire and the X1950XTX in terms of specs. That said, the X1950XTX (or crossfire) will definitely outshine the X1900GT. The flipside is you pay for it. If you're considering the X1950, I see no reason to not go for the Crossfire card as it will give you more expandability than the XTX at the same price and the specs are identical.

It just seems like the GT and X1950XTX are cards in completely different categories and the comparison is odd.

well , its not that odd of a question, since summed up its really, go with 2 less powerful cards in crossfire, or one powerful card. Since GT xfire costs the same as 1 x1950.

Apologies, I misunderstood your post. I thought you just meant a single X1900 Crossfire, not 2 cards versus the X1950XTX.
