Would it be possible to use a color lcd from a cell phone the same as you would a regular lcd? comments , thought, and pictures of this if its been done would be appreciated.

While were in the same topic, how about for a handspring visor screen???? One in which the system actually doesn't work, meaning I cant connect it to the computer via usb, and also on my screen the mini ccfl broke, so.

The easy answer: Give up and buy a Parallel Port LCD (a 2x16 can be had for around $15) or a more expensive Serial Port LCD.

The not so easy answer: You'd need years of experience to build an LCD controller for the cellphone screen or the visor screen.

Not really true it is possible to use a Nokia 3210 or 3310 screen without too much troubble (or controllers) with a pc

That's the exception - not the rule. It seems quite obvious that the OP doesn't know much about electronics - so I think the advice of getting a parallel or serial port lcd is excellent.

99% chance it will not be worth it...

lcd modules of both graphical and text are so cheap online, its not worth the trouble of trying to use recycled panels...

the cellphone/visor one even if there is support for it is going to be a flex connector, good luck finding something to mate with it

In case someone is interested in how color cell phone displays can be connected here's a topic that might be worth checking:
http://www.skippari.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=586

There are also pictures of a working display and discussion and hints how to do it but no ready to use software. The display can also be soldered without much trouble.

Why the hell would anyone want to waste their time on a display that is like, 1x1 inches anyway? Seems like the cost in supplies to make anything worth it would be the same as picking up a PSOne LCD off of ebay.
