Apparently I have been living under a rock because I had no idea there were actual CD trimmer / lathes out there to make your CDs
ummm, rounder. The best part is they only cost $900!

This is audiophile voodoo. I swear, some of the dumbest people on earth are audiophiles who fall for this pile of neutered bovine dung.
QFT. High end audiophiles can exhibit a truly mindblowing lack of common sense and critical thinking skills at times.

Maybe they can just hear better than the rest of us.
I wonder if it helps with those disks that tend to vibrate in a 52x drive? I usually assume it is due to paint/labels, but I suppose they could be a bit out of concentric due to cheap manufacturing tolerances. In cases where it has really offended me, ripping and burning onto new media has solved the problem - for a lot cheaper, unless you factor the cost of time spent flipping disks.
Still, it has me wondering about a DIY rig to center and balance an entire 100-spindle at a time![]()
What audiophilia is true is that $200 studio monitors sound better than $50 pieces of plastic shit from Creative Labs.
This here though makes me want to get into the snakeoil business and make money - the guys who really multibox World of Warcraft? I think some of them are capitalizing on stuff like this, and I feel like joining in the fun. Build it and they will come/buy it.
Oh my, check out this amazing product, at only $399!

Can you say "Liberating Excessive Cash from Idiots" if not, this product may be for you!!
The best location for the HiFi-Tuning Quantum Plug is on an unused outlet in the AC line filter or
distribution strip for your A/V equipment. For best results insert the Quantum plug in an
available AC outlet. The full effect will develop in 30-60 minutes.
you have no idea
i love music, and audio, most of my equipment and cables i have designed and built myself with really nice components (mind you not expensive "omg supar magical!" components) and whenever i take my equipment to headfi meets people are blown away by how it sounds for 1/10 to 1/100th the price of similar equipment....
things like really nice wire are not expensive... but dont tell them that... i just had a huge forum war with some idiot claiming that a $5000 USB cable(!!!) would make your USB DAC sound soooo much better... becuase apparantly the 1's and 0's will get there happier or something lol
QFT! I just built myself a fairly nice 2.1 setup for music and an audiophile friend of mine told me that "It was terrible because I wasn't using expensive cables"
it's like people who buy 800 dollar monster power outlet bars
An audio CD only has to spin at a maximum of 500 RPM. 52x corresponds to a maximum RPM of 10,350 RPM. Big differenceI wonder if it helps with those disks that tend to vibrate in a 52x drive?
It might save wear on the drive as well -- same principle as getting the wheels balanced on your car. Of course with the lathe at $900 the cost/benefit ratio is still probably nil.I
While the CD lathe is useless for audio playback, it might actually be useful for high-speed burning. Note: MIGHT.
Wrong. Audiophiles are people who know and care about audio. I am greatly insulted in your lumping us together in with asshats who just have too much money. This is audiophile voodoo. I swear, some of the dumbest people on earth are audiophiles who fall for this pile of neutered bovine dung. Someone bring back the test that was done here on the [H] using ultra expensive monster cable and your ordinary coat hanger as a means of speaker wire and read the results.
Probably goping head to head with these guys:

Warning: retarded audiophiles with more cash than brains should not click on that link.
In defence of an audio nut I know - his setup does sound un-believable, and it proves that analogue sound doesn't just sound a bit better than digital, they're worlds apart.
Impossible to explain, you have to hear it to believe it really, plus you have to be listening to vinyl. CD's just wont cut it. 44.1Khz audio is gonna sound like exactly that no matter what you play it through.
However, stick a Vinyl through it and the sound is simply stunning.
His defnse is this; he didn't spend ludicroud amounts of money, he built his speakers himself, has a rather nice turn table, and two silver rapped transisters meaning he doesn't need pre-amps and all that bollocks. He just sends the audio straight from his turn table to his speakers. He's an audio professor.
Digital audio IS flat. There's no two ways around it.
At the same time though, I also know some other audiophiles and they're nuts, imo.
