The AMD Catalyst&#8482; 12.2 Preview release notes
The AMD Catalyst&#8482; 12.2 Preview includes all of the features found in AMD Catalyst&#8482; 12.1, plus additional fixes that are not included in the AMD Catalyst 12.1 release.

Have either of you ever tried to merge two different things together and not introduce new bugs?

It isn't as easy as you would think... especially for drivers.

They will probably merge the driver sets once they get things ironed out to their liking.

Or maybe they are going to have seperate drivers like when they seperated the really old cards from the newer cards a few years back.
 
Not sure what the problem is? The 7970 drivers listed have been out for 5 days, so they are quite a few weeks newer than the WHQL drivers.
 
FYI, "12.3 will be the first official Catalyst release to support the 7900"

So it seems right now, if you are running a 6000 series card, you can run 12.1 WHQL or 12.2 Preview.

If you are running a 7900 series card, use the RC11 driver.
 
Installed these on my 2x 4870x2 and 2x 4850 setups, working great.
 
New GCN arch, expected, nvidia took a whole year to support sli with vista.
Not that easy to write drivers ;)
 
Do I need to install cap drivers for crossfire if I install 12.2 preview drivers?

Drivers will generally include the latest CAP that was available at the time the driver was released. If you see any CAPs with a date newer than the drivers (even if the version number is older) go ahead and install them.

I am sorry this is bullshit. Its been weeks since launch and we SHOULD expect solid software support for their top tier hardware. This is the kind of idiocy that will get people to think twice about buying AMD hardware.

They've given you drivers, why are you bitching? The fact that a particular set doesn't include your card means nothing. If anything the RC11 drivers are likely newer.

Actually as a software developer, yes I have. Many times. You basically have your trunk with the production code and then you have multiple branches with development code. As it's highly unlikely that the 7970 architecture warrants them making a new driver from scratch, they likely they branch off the code and add support for the 7970 hardware. You then merge that 7970 branch into the 12.1 code or some other beta driver code, send it for QC and then release a public beta if QC OKs it.

It does not guarantee it will be bug free; but that's why we have betas. Then you can have betas with out of the box support for the new hardware with new features and crap for people who like to live on the bleeding edge (like most of [H]), while you have a WHQL or standard driver with basic support for your new fancy piece of hardware for the rest of your userbase.

The whole point is you are supposed to do all of this crap prior to releasing your brand new $550 shiny piece of high end hardware.
 
Just FYI, 12.2 requires a slightly different syntax for profiles, in the mean that they require some extra data on a couple lines, so if you use CCC profiles be sure to double check that they are actually working.
