Catalyst 9.4 Released

I like the others have had problems installing it on Windows 7 x64 7068. It is a fresh install and the display driver only. I still have the display driver for 9.3 and it installed just fine. Maybe the post above is right about it not being signed but no where did I get that error.

Personally I never install any drivers (beyond what Windows installs by default) until after Windows has finished updating. I'd wait till Vista is fully updated, download Cat 9.4 again to make sure it's not corrupt and then try installing again.

That's ALMOST what I ended up doing; as soon as Windows finished updating, I uninstalled the bad Cat drivers, then reinstalled them from the same download. Works now. Thanks for the help!

It is very annoying that ATI/AMD claims to support Win7, but then fails to install drivers properly. If anyone is having troubles with Win7 install, you need to do it manually:

Device Manager --> Display Adapters; right click to select "update driver software" --> Select "Browse" --> Select "Let me pick..." --> Highlight "Standard VGA" or whatever option you have there --> Press "Have Disk" --> Search for your driver file that was extracted from the catalyst installation program (C:\ATI\Support\9-4_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Driver\Packages\Drivers\Display\LH6A_INF)

This will get the drivers working on Win7

IMO it's not reasonable to claim that ATI doesn't support W7 when W7 isn't even available yet.

Remember W7 is still experimental right now.

So right now it's way to early to say that ATI isn't supporting W7 when they have publicly stated that they are supporting W7.

Installed these yesterday, everything seems to run just fine. I did notice that Steam seemed to think that my drivers were out of date.

Ok, I agree with you to an extent. In AMD/ATI's defense, they did state the drivers were not final and were released as-is. However, my problem with it was the drivers WILL work with 7, but the installation simply would not load the drivers correctly (if at all?). It has to be done manually. They even use W7 32/64-bit systems in their selection "flowchart," implying it should at least work. It just seems they either rushed the 9.4 release or rushed the release of the cards as only beta drivers were available upon launch. Anyway, it's just my opinion. Take care everyone

Hmm...

I'm able to take my 4870 512 to 840mhz, up from it's original 825mhz with the 9.4s... Totally stable, increases in fps and ATT benchmarks too.

Found a huge problem.

No longer able to play L4D. :(

I can load it up. After the opening scene it freezes and I'm unable to escape to the screen then I have to to a hard reboot to exit system. :(

anybody else getting redirected to their leech page when trying to download?

edit: meh! worked from my fresh install of vista using ie7. Wonder why it hates Ubuntu.

Look at this mess!!!

Installed flawlessly in, Win7 32 and Win7 64 (both 7077, and one earlier install of 7068 x64) here. Wtf is up with your systems.

The only time I actually had issues with installing ati drivers was when I followed the long, unnecessary way of using drivercleaner/sweeper,etc. by way of peoples recommendation. (not sure why I listened)

My way of doing it is to uninstall -> delete all the ati folders (app data, etc) reboot -> install new drivers -> reboot and everything always works. (from cat 8.6/7 -> 9.4 done this way)

I've never experienced a CTD, blue screen, or a bug - save for overclocking too high when running Crysis and the vid blanks out for a sec.

Honestly had more issues using nvidia drivers with the GTX 285s. To each their own

that's completely obsolete now. do what you want but ATI specifically packages their drivers to be installed overtop existing Cat's. even their recommended installation procedure says to install over existing drivers and not even uninstall the old ones.

the install issues people are having are those of us on Windows 7 and the other issues...maybe youre right, who knows. ive not seen reports of anyone else getting bsods with the 9.4s

Yeah, but those lines and dots accross those lines are artifacts. I don't see those when I use that test, it looks completely smooth.

are you joking lol? seriously im not sure if that was a joke or not.

that screen's part of the new Overdrive system to test the OC lol

This is not a joke. The Overdrive system is supposed to safely tune the GPU. All the white specs are artifacts which prove the overdrive software is not doing a good job of tuning the gpu.

Also pay attention to this.

WARNING AMD and ATI processors are intended to be operated only within their associated specifications and factory settings. Operating your AMD or ATI processor outside of specification or in excess of factory settings, including but not limited to overclocking, may damage your processor and/or lead to other

That is a disclaimer in case some something breaks.

What is the point of offering "Overdrive" tuning in CCC if it will damage the GPU?

Another thing.

Prior to 9.4 drivers my Xfire performed better with only 1 Crossfire jumper connecting the two cards.

With 9.4 my system works better with 2 Xfire jumpers.

Last night after I did the overdrive it proved unstable. However I tweaked the BIOS on my MB and was able to find what appears to be optimum settings for my GPU.

I'm very happy with the performance I'm getting on 2 HD4850s in Xfire. It's the best performance I've ever got out of my cards. :)

Don't know, but I am also running 7077. Cat 9.3 installed flawlessly though. Will try 9.4 on top of 9.3 to see if that works any differently.

Your advice worked perfectly to get Catalyst 9.4 installed with CCC opening and working properly (Win7 x64 7077.) I wasted several hours trying to get it installed/working and searching for a clear-cut solution, and this post ended my frustrations. I can't thank you enough for your input...

I had some trouble with this driver more than anyother in the past 5 months since I had an ATI card. Now when I installed at 1st it only saw one core of my 4870x2, so I had to uninstall and then re-install the driver. That worked fine. Now my problem is with CCC. When the computer boots up and turns onto the desktop. I go into CCC and want to read my core clock and memory clocks. now core 0 is fine at 500-507, but core 1 is running at 750-900. Why? shouldn't both cores down clock in idle for the 4870x2? I do not know how to fix it, since every time I booted up the computer I would have to turn overdrive on then change clock frequency up 1 or 2 MHz. Then turn overdrive off, and that is when the 2nd core would down clock itself. Now I am using Rivatuner to boot up Windows with clock speeds, but I have the clock at 375 and mem at 450 any danger to this? or are these okay?

I ran those speeds with RT for a while and never had problems. I've seen people modify a CCC profile to get them lower.

As for the clock speed, that is the power play bug and I think its been back since 9.2. Another way to fix the clock speed is to start up a 3d app like furmark. In XP you just have to open it up. In Vista you have to actually start a benchmark, but can close it as soon as it starts.

Switched from 8800 Ultra to HD 4890 like a week ago. Uninstalled the nv drivers, then ran driver cleaner. Installed 9.4s but on restarting Windows constantly says that it detected new hardware and that drivers were improperly installed. Reinstalling 9.4 didn't fix this. One problem so far that I noticed is that Crysis Warhead crashes after about 30 min of gameplay.

Try uninstalling the drivers, disabling/unplugging your network, restarting, and running the install while not being connected to the internet.

Im connected by ethernet cable to the modem at home; should I disable ports in bios or just disable them once booted?

i think the idea is to stop windows from loading a default driver when you boot. just unplug the network cable from your pc.

So I bit the bullet and installed Cat 9.4 last night. No issues. Installed right on top of Cat 9.3. Didn't ask me to reboot but I had to reboot in order to get the new CCC to open for me.

Crossfire is working correctly and everything appears stable. :)
