Catalyst 8.12

Installed and everything runs at least as well as 8.11's; no new issues. Still can't run 3d apps with any sort of Overdrive enabled (even just having the box checked but no OC causes a cash on 3d app launch).

Got a decent increase in Crysis; with all settings max, 8xaa, 1920x1080 I was getting 29.8 FPS avg with the 64 bit DX10 GPU benchmark beach flythru demo, and now I'm getting 35 avg with 8.12.

*edit* Turns out my AA was somehow disabled and I didn't notice; running the same things again with 8.12's gives 27fps avg with 8xaa enabled. Still not terrible, but hardly the huge increase I was hoping for (25% my ass)

Note that both of those figures are with Catalyst A.I. set to advanced. I honestly have no idea what that does, but I do know that with it disabled I was barely pulling 17 fps avg with the 8.11's in the same demo. Can anyone explain to me what Cat A.I. is real quick, and if I should always have it enabled w/advanced selected?

8xAA in Crysis? What? No way that's playable, sorry.

yeah he also said it was on max settings too which means Very High DX10. I find that hard to believe. Hardocp couldnt even run it on Very High at 1920 much less with 8x AA. http://hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTU0OSwzLCwxNjA=

of course newer drivers since then have helped but still just the jump to Very High usually takes a 20-25% hit and then 8x AA is taking a few more frames.

Hence the edit. I havn't played Crysis in a long while and must have forgotten I turned off AA for whatever reason last time I played.

After some more tests, I got 27fps with 8xaa and 29fps with 4x. Tried forcing edge detect AA through CCC, got 23.5fps with 8xaa set to edge detect, and roughly the same with 4x.

and thats in DX10 very high?

Got a nice increase in Crysis. I only tested one level and only moved straight for like 10 seconds because I was late to work haha
1680x1050/2x AA/DX9/custom config (mostly enthusiast)
8.11: ~30-32 FPS
8.12: 40-47 FPS

So I'm quite happy!

These break crossfire in 4870x2's.

Great job AMD, another piss poor effort put into your drivers.

With a multi-GPU card, disabling CatalystAI also disables the on-board crossfire, effectively giving you a single 4870.

...wow. Good to know, thanks. I'm pretty sure I've been running this thing with that off for a while because I typically prefer to run games using app settings and try not to touch CCC.

can someone with crossfired 4850's confirm these work?

yes i have no problems.

They don't work for me. I still get the BSOD with these drivers. ATI/AMD sucks!!! I have tried them with dual monitor and single, no go. I tried updating my chipset drivers, no go. I would say that those of us with 4850 CrossfireX have to continue using 8.10.

My 4850 crossfire setup has worked with every single driver I've tried from 8.10-8.12 including every BETA I've tested...

same here. i think its user error or a conflict.

Just ran the small ranch benchmark. 2x aa, 1920x1200 using 8.11 and the averages were 100 high, 47 low and 69 avg. With 8.12 they were 111 high, 48 low and 72 avg.
The differences were a lil bit better with 4x aa. I gained 9.5 frames high (81), 7 frames low (44) and 9 frames avg (57.7).

I've had zero luck with these, can't stop getting a BSOD at startup. Went back to my 8.10's

i'm having trouble getting this working on my XP x64 Professional, after install driver, the system keeps rebooting after XP x64 loading screen. very annoying.

Also, with the 8.10 driver, Photoshop CS4 is having trouble detecting the hardware for it's hardware acceleration capability, CS4 reports that no hardware capable of 3D acceleration is found... very annoying too.

Device manager is only seeing one GPU on my 4870x2 with these. Fail.

Edit: Q6600, P35, 4870 X2, Vista 64.

Seems like ATi has really fallen off the wagon here with quality control. I remember back when Vista came out the drivers were top notch while nVidia's were piss poor, now it's slowly reversing.

Have an X2 here on Vista X64 Business without any problem. Nice performance increase in GRID compared to 8.11, I don't get any stuttering anymore.

These are working PERFECT with my 4870 X2

newer chipset (p45) and Vista x64

Crossfire is working fine, Small performance increase in Cod5.

AVIVO Converter working fine also, Compared a quick test of converting a DVIX to DVD.
With Nero it was going to take 40 minutes on a quad core @ 3.6, the AVIVO program took 8 minutes.

I don't think that DIVX is supported on the converter, if you can make it work then please tell me how, I only get sounds without pictures when converting a DIVX file.

These new drivers don't work at all on my Diamond HD3870. Same error message that was coming up with the beta.

Says I don't have an ATI product installed.

And this is on a clean install of Vista Business x64.

Did you unininstall/clean and reboot before installing?

Did you try manually installing the drivers (device manager, properties on VGA device, update driver, point to ATI drivers) then rebooting?

It's any card that uses crossfire regardless if it's 1 or 2 cards.

Go into the CCC and in *overdrive* use the pull down to see if you have 1 or 2 cards listed.

If only 1 is there, then you have the same issue many of us do, if there is 2 listed, then your ok.

These drivers are working great with my 4870x2. Getting 50-60fps now in Far Cry 2 8xAA 1920x1200 Ultra High settings in DX10 mode. Far Cry 2 is one heck of a game, looks 20x better than Crysis. Good stuff. Crysis doesn't seem much better, but I haven't applied the patch. Going to apply the 1.21 patch and see how it goes. I think Crysis is hopeless, but maybe once I apply the patch it will be a little different.

You mean under "graphic adaptor" or under "select GPU to configure"? Under "graphic adaptor" there is only one card but I think it is because I only one monitor connected for the time being, didn't try with my second monitor yet. I cannot see under "select GPU to configure" because I don't want to unlock overdrive since I want the fan and clock speed to change automatically. Under device manager I have two cards, in GPU-Z I have two cards and crossfire in enabled. In GRID and CoD:WaW, the performance is better than 8.11.

Still doeasn't work... It Installes, then after it is done, it says:

"No ATI graphics driver is installed, or the ATI driver is not functioning properly.
Please install the ATI driver appropriate for your ATI hardware."

This still happens even after I reboot.

I have been having massive issues with VPU recovers the last couple of months. It has gotten very bad the last couple of weeks. And yes, the card has been reseated as well as cleaned again.... no dust buildup whatsoever. Turning the fan speed up to 80% doesn't help at all either. And this is also with the card running at stock clocks.

I haven't really been overclocking it at all in quite a while. No need to with the games I have been running..... mostly WoW.

I just put in an RMA request to Diamond.

I get something very similar to you, I get "the driver cannot start ect." crap and i'm running a sapphire card, so I had to go back to the 8.11, works like a charm.

Same happened with my 4850's. I won't be updating to 8.12 until I hear some of these issues going away.

I looked in the .inf file and it appears that all the same 3870 hardware IDs are present in 8.11 and 8.12.

And it installs the drivers.. it just won't work after the drivers are installed.

Oh well... guess I will see what I get with my RMA.

I figured out how to get rid of the Crossfire BSOD after installing the driver upon loading into vista

Go into safe mode disable the ATI external event viewer

then reboot go into catalyst and enable cross fire
reboot and then re-enable the event viewer
and everything should work fine !
