Hi there folks, the 7.10 is quite interesting.
Especially now when 2900 Pro is on market and it's possible that with AA driver fixes it will successfully compete with 8800 GTS or even GTX.

What makes this driver the one? the last three weren't it. I really wonder if there is a magical 2900 driver that somehow unlocks unknown potential on these cards to kick 8800 ultras in the face. Because I haven't seen such a driver yet, but I hear its coming ;) :rolleyes:

If they ever do release such a driver, it needs to be soon because the R600 is probably going to be outclassed by new products, such as the RV670. I'm thinking that it is time for the "magic drivers will fix everything" crowd to let the dream go, and enjoy the performance they have. They didn't pay GTX prices for the card (unless they bought the 1GB edition), and knew what they were getting when they bought it. Those that bought the 1GB editions thinking they would be awesome could have prevented disappointment by reading a review or two.

I'm wrong or is it R670 carrying same architecture as R600 with just smaller die size and limited mem bus 256 bit.
If I'm right then it will have same bottle neck in AA use and the only fix for that is smarter use of shaders( read optimised drivers ).

There are further optimizations.
 
I grabbed these and it looks like their for xp only. Tell me I'm wrong and I'll try them.
 
Ive got them running in XP and there is now a drop down box to choose between super-sampling and multi-sampling under the Adaptive AA menu. Havent noticed any performance drops or anything yet, but still get a memory overload crash on Source games sometimes...

For $265 my 2900Pro to XT card was a good deal. I don't believe there is magic driver that will suddenly make this card faster than a GTX. But, to be honest, I"m happy with the performance of the card. And since I"m running 2-4X AA at 1680x1050, the card puts out similar numbers to the GTS's. The only game that doesn't run too well on it (that I have) is Two Worlds. It runs just as poorly on my 2900 as on my X1900. Weird.

It's not a magic fix, it suppose to be more efficient use of shaders for AA/AF.

Btw what's your spec, like cpu, mem.

I'm about to get the 2900PRO tomorrow, can't wait to OC it.

the 2900s are nice cards. i don't think you can go wrong with a pro. now, an XT isn't that good of a deal since the 640mb GTS is cheaper and just as fast/faster...but the pro is nice
