Catalyst 6.4 Driver released

I sent a compliant all they tell me is instructions on how to install it. It IMO they are ignoring the problem.
 
i just upgraded to 6.4 and no matter what i do, i can't get the contol center to work ....any ideas? it was working fine on 6.3, and i'm on a new winxp install with microsoft net + updates installed .....

revert to 6.3 and see if that helps.

With the Cat 6.3's i wasn't able to change my monitor's resolution without the screen going black and staying that way unless I rebooted with my Viewsonic VP920B.

ATI needs to fix this kinda stuff.

I'm still using the 6.2's not sure if I wanna waste my time installing these new ones.

is that .net 2.0 or 1.1 im using 1.1 and ccc is fine?
 
Just downloaded microsoft net from ATI website, Nothing changed. the control center will not work. installed the old version 6.3, again the same symptoms, you click on the control center icon and nothing happened? any ideas?

it was working fine untill i updated the drivers ? the only thing i could think off is windows defender preventing it from loading or anything ......

the other thing that happened was when i first installed 6.4, the systme hanged during the Control panel installation for some reason.......

strange ,,, this never happened before, i always update my drivers and i run a very stable machine !!!!

You're just trying to force AA through Catalyst 6.4 in Oblivion and not AA plus HDR? If so, that does seem strange why it won't work. If all you're trying to do is turn AA on, then maybe you can use the in-game AA settings instead of CCC. Doesn't solve why AA through CCC doesn't work in Oblivion but at least you'll be able to turn on AA with the game.
 
Well, I'm dissapointed once again.

Once the control panel loads in windows the screen goes black and stays that way.

I can't use the 6.3's or the damn 6.4's. This is rediculous. :mad:

Back to 6.2 I go.
 
I removed my old 6.3, installed 6.4, friom the first reboot the XP logo screen got all garbled...stays that way until wiindows loads. My games were crashing at random too.

Uninstalled, back on 6.3 w/CP and all is fine once again. The only problem is the CP needs to have overclocking other than basic overdrive.
 
IMHO if you get a distorted bootup screen I wouldn't mess with them. You don't know how these drivers are interacting with your VC. My computer consumes the most current during bootup. Although unlikely it's possible to damage your VC (artifacting is still caused be overheating). Yes, the artifacting can be driver only but it could also be do to overheating during bootup that is pronounced in XP because thats when the Cat drivers kick in (during post there are no drivers thus no artifacting). This artifacting you are seeing could be result of a timed heatup of your VC. This is just an opinion...

5927 using Cat 6.4
5898 Cat 6.3

but I never watched it so I don't know if it artifacted through or not. I have no problems though :shrug: Remember this was the first thing I did when I installed the drivers the first time. After 3d06 everything went nuts..
 
I have a Sapphire X1800XL and use WinXP pro sp2. When I install CCC I get a bsod every time when windows is booting. I have .net installed. When I use ATI Tray Tools instead of CCC everything runs fine. I'm no expert (or anything close to it), but it seems to me that CCC (or something in the mix) has some serious compatibility problems.

I installed the cat 6.4 and dont seem to be having any problems at all. Maybe a newer one is out now?

Well i'm sure it will work fine on some peoples machines they wouldnt release a driver that was 100% bad on every machine, you probably just lucked out

Btw...if anyone knows how to fix this problem, I'd be very greatful since I can't use the Avivo encoders with the 6.2 drivers and this is bumming me out.

Also, sometimes the screen won't go black once the CCC loads at boot, but it will once I try to set my refresh rate.
 
Not to say this is the problem but the last time I couldn't use a feature with my x850xt was because it no longer worked on the VC. The software wasn't the problem it was the hardware....Forgot what it was though, its been awhile.
 
Is it me, or does Windows not recognize these drivers or something? Everytime I turn it on it does that "searching for drivers" thing. I'm too lazy to go back to the older version for such a minor anoyance, but it is an annyoance. Anyone else having that problem?

It probably did not get uninstalled properly from the .NET stuff

try going to control panel / administrative tools / Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Wizards then click on "Fix an Application"

does the "uccc.exe" still show up?

I'm trying to figure out how to remove .net managed applications manually - but not lucky so far.
 
It has been suggested in another thread that 6.4 is messing with mem timing. 1 person so far is still getting the ill affects of the 6.4 driver even after a reformat. It's been suggested to flash the bios using a xtx bios.

They don't test these things very thoroughly if that's the case.
 
I know this isn't really a driver issue but more like a BIOS issue but have any of you guys had a problem with when you boot your PC on you get a black screen that says it cannot display this mode when using DVI? I does it randomly when i reboot usually and it just halts on that screen for a few seconds and then continues on without a problem. Anyone know how to address it? I have an X1900 XTX and a Dell 2005FPW and i've tried both DVI ports.

I get that problem probably once every 5 or so reboots. I have the same card and monitor. I have two 2005's and it's always one that does it and carries that message through the boot process until i turn the monitor off and then on again, but the other one will be displaying everything correctly. I have no idea why though.
 
They seem to work pretty well for me. I'm running the 64 bit version, with .net framework 2.0. The CCC works fine, and the drivers seem to work pretty well with most of the games I've tried. This is with an x1900XT. I do get about 1 second of screen corruption during boot like some others here, but everything is fine when I get into Windows.
 
might I aslo add that these stupid drivers also cause my computer to reboot 10-15 seconds after complete shutdown. Using system restore or removing them from safe mode is the only to keep my computer off. And yes i get the garbled crap and also the DVI missing stuff. What a sack of crap drivers!
 
i hate ati drivers, i wait for modified drivers from omega or dna [mainly from omega these days]

BF2 artifacted like crazy at the menu screen. Wired, 3d06 ran flawless and I got a boost from 5800x to 5900s wired, very berry wired. Try Cat 6.4 at your own risk...

I just uninstalled cat 6.4. Rebooting now to see if it fixes the issue with the boot screen as you described.

Same thing happens to me.
 
So after running the cat uninstaller to remove everything, I installed the the Cat 6.3 bundle. I am still seeing the wierd screen flash up before the XP splash screen, there are usually 3 or so instances of CLI.exe running in task manager at any given time, and when shutting down or restarting, it hangs a bit before doing so. Should I be using drivers different from those included in the cat 6.3 bundle from ATI's website? Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong or what I should try next to resolve my issues?

I haven't even started gaming yet...at this rate, that should be an adventure.
 
Just a thought here, maybe a lil late & off the wall, but it just maybe that ATI them selfs does not know what the real problem is and how best to correct the issues and rather than come out with some BS excuse or even worse end up sounding like they are inept.
They Just say nothing and just hope that they can come up with a fix As soon as they can.
And I guess its to hard for them to just come out right and admit they understand there is a problem & they are not sure why or how best to correct it but they are working on it. And will post / let everyone know asap.

psupef2k Try this *** For ATI users *** and then you can go to ATI and get the Display Driver - Control Panel or you can get the Display Driver Only and just use ATI Tool and or ATI Tray Tools. I have seen a few posts about this already and fora few people it has worked. Also check the release notes at those ATI links I gave here. Good luck hope it works out fer ya :)

Drivers and Software > Windows XP > FireMV > Windows XP/2000 Driver and Software options for FireMV Products > Previous Microsoft certified WHQL Drivers > Catalyst 6.3 for Windows XP/2000
For WDM Integrated Driver:
ATI Customer Care > Drivers and Software > Windows XP > RADEON > Previous Drivers and Software > Next >> Catalyst 6.3 Windows XP - Driver Download. Then scroll down to Low Speed (Dial-up) to get the WDM Drivers.

I was going through all my options to correct my issues and I just found out that the links I posted here for you, will give an Expired Session. I apologize for the posting of incorrect links.
When you go look for the downloads on the ATI site, go to Drivers and Software > Windows XP > FireMV > Windows XP/2000 Driver and Software options for FireMV Products > Previous Microsoft certified WHQL Drivers > Catalyst 6.3 for Windows XP/2000. At this point, you will see the files to Download

What is FireMV? Also, I just want the display driver control panel and display driver only files, not the catalyst control center, correct? Or is the display driver control panel the same as CCC?
 
Fire MV is just another of the ATI products, the Display Driver & Controle Panel is NOT the same as CCC. To get the Display Drivers & Controle Panel, you will find them under the FireMV heading, as I posted, that is just where ATI has them.
Also when you tried Driver Cleaner, did you do the Clean cab files with Driver Cleaner, if not try doing that also.

Just to let you know, I just finished, Cleaning everything out with driver cleaner including the Clean cab files. I then installed the Display Drivers and Controle Panel. And the Extreme Artifacts on reboot were all gone Yeee Haaa :D but I was getting that stupid new hardware wizard, and it then dawned on me that I forgot to install the WDM Integrated Driver ((found under .ATI Customer Care > Drivers and Software > Windows XP > RADEON > Previous Drivers and Software)) Not sure why I had to install this, but I no longer have any conflicfts in the hardware device manager and so far so good, Im still getting a screen flicker when I open the advanced options in the Display properties. but other than that all is working good {keeping fingers crossed} :cool:

Now onto installing ATI tools and see how all the parts will or not work together.

PS: I don't mean to throw to many options at ya here, but this just another option to look into, which im going to check on, but there is an option to replace the ATI Drivers with Omega Drivers as posted in another thread.

Edit: Just a quickie here, gotta geta little nap before work at 2300, so far all is working good and even installed ATI Tool 0.25 beta 14, have not messed it much yet, but my system stayed stable with what little i did do.

I did it all and I am still getting the wierd screen before the XP splash screen and even a blip after the xp splash screen before the login screen comes up. :(

This is beyond annoying. When It requested the WDM drivers for me, it installed them automatically, I didn't get a chance to run the install i had on my own, could that be part of the problem?

When running drive cleaner in safe mode, the following keys show up no matter how many times I run the clean on "ATI"

Yeah It did it for me as well, but after I installed everything, I figured all was okay since things got better for me.
Which files did you download? If you downloaded the full CCC package ((should not have downloaded full CCC package)) then it might have done so, but If you downloaded the Display Drivers & Controle Panel only Package it should not have, well it did not for me.
The only other thing I can suggest is uninstall everything again and just go with the Stand alone Display Drivers and WDM Drivers and use ATI Tool Or ATI Tray Tools for all the settings. And or try the Omega Display Drivers I linked to and there is the stand alone 6.4 Display Drivers & and stand alone WDM Drivers which can be found on the same ATI site for the low speed dial up downloads. I know its not going to be easy figuring it all out, been there done that and it sucks, if one option does not work try another and so on. And if all else fails you can try calling ATI. Unless there is anyone else here that may have some helpful ideas, hints and tips.

Things are a bit better. Still doing the corrupt screen flashes on boot up (sometimes, not as much). I am wondering if it is a motherboard BIOS issue. It is quite possible as this motherboard is still quite new in the scheme of things.
 
It would not hurt to check for updated Bios and install if need be, good to hear it has gotten better. I to am still getting screen flickers when I open the advanced properties of the display settings. So i may try the 6.4 stand alone drivers & WDM Drivers to see how that works and maybe even the Omega Drivers to see which is better.
