Catalyst 14.4 download

not really release notes, but they fixed the following for me:

broken power limit.
sticky clocks.

Running 290 crossfire here, best AMD drivers for me.So good went out and bought one of those 144Hz screens. Games running great v-sync at 144Hz which is fine for me.

No issues with these for me so far. Diablo 3 had been finicky with the frame rate on 14.3, these seem smoother. I know D3 isn't exactly a graphically demanding game, but it's nice to have it butter smooth at the higher difficulty levels.

Flash still randomly murders these drivers for me... literally randomly as far as I can tell. Like welp looks like you've gone a week without it happening, time to eat shit fullscreening a youtube video.

Bugcheck: 0xA0000001
C:\Windows\system32\drivers\atikmdag.sys

I think I started getting this around the first Mantle driver.

Never had that issue myself, socK. Fullscreen Youtube/flash videos all the time.

Which browser? Could be a separate issue

Just took one back to Micro Center today - not to crap on your joy, but I tweaked the fuck out of it and could not get the black (grey...) levels tolerable. Play a lot of dark games in a dark room and it looked like shit. Just got the BenQ EW2440L AHVA panel late last week, all tweaked in over the weekend - so much better image, nice inky blacks and tolerable response, acceptable trade off for me. Does 75 Hz just fine as well.

As for the drivers, have (hopefully had) the black screen crash issue, Have the DirectCUII R9 290 OC, never a in game issue, just when dicking around the internet or at desktop, was on 14.3 beta, found that if running something that uses some bit of gpu - 4-6%, running some webgl shit or playing youtube in a tiny window, It never black screened. Messed up! Has to be the power states bouncing around or something. could game for hrs and hrs without an issue.

Installed these when found on Guru3D and seems so far with only a full nights testing, all is now fine. Not getting hopes up too much, need more time. Was about to RMA the fucker, but I hate that shit, they'd just send back the same damn card saying nothing is wrong with it.

I've had the BSOD sometimes when playing flash videos on youtube. HTML5 works fine. It's atikmdag.sys that's not liking what Flash is doing. I've rolled back to 13.12 since 14.3 was beta. Hasn't BSOD yet.

Disappointing.

I actually think it's a problem with one of the accelerated paths in AMDs drivers, but most people probably only hit it with Flash since it's still so popular. I was getting it all the time until I disabled "[ ] Enable hardware acceleration" in Flash. It happens mostly when you resize (go fullscreen or back), but I've also have had it just happen out of the blue.

I recently tried the HTML5 player on youtube and bang up it goes in smoke again; bluescreen with "SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (atikmdag.sys)", so it's not strictly confined to Flash.

I actually went through the trouble to make a detailed report on AMD's site, but there were no way to attach a kernel dump and I never heard from them (imagine that).

Now I've settled for tweeting an image of the bluescreen to "@AMDRadeon @Samshaw71 #AMDRedTeam" each time it happens. Join me :-p

Can I get a couple others to chime in here regarding the power limit being fixed for a friggin chance? I played with ~10 different BIOS releases thinking there was something wrong with my card until I stumbled upon a thread that mentioned it was present in all of the 14.X Beta Drivers (up to 14.3 at least)..I rolled back to 13.12 and it instantly disappeared..I felt like a fool at all of the wasted hours I spent trying to dial in a monster OC...My card doesn't break ~40C on a 12 hour loop of Heaven, but was constantly throttling. I wanted to tear my hair out.:mad::mad:

I get the random once a week or two week BSoD playing video with 14.3 on A10-7850K iGPU that didn't happen with previous versions. Hope they fix it with the next release.

Just got another one and I wasn't even playing video (well, I can't swear some flash thing wasn't open somewhere in the background I guess).

its fixed with the 14.4 leaks.

I have the same issue. I thought it was my tri-fire setup. Guess not. I play some Crunchyroll videos and it bluescreens and I was thinking there's something in my setup that was screwed up. Thank god I'm not alone!

Saving for my 4k monitor.

My overclocking with this driver is back to the levels I was at with 13.11/13.12. It seems fixed :)

These drivers run great with 7990s. Cpu jitter is gone. Good improvements. Talking about bf4 ;)

wonder if the performance level is back at the 13.12 driver. I tried some of the beta drivers and performance dropped hard.

Well the issues with GPU/power throttling seem fixed so give them a try. That could account for a lot of the performance discrepancy.

This driver reports support for the GL_ARB_bindless_texture extension on R9, which I think is a first on the AMD side. bindless_texture was promoted with the release of OpenGL 4.4, but AMD is still on 4.3 (this driver: "4.3.12872 Compatibility Profile Context 14.100.0.0").

Bindless is an important part of the on-going performance focus, and its appearance could mean official GL4.4 support from AMD is on the horizon.

The other big part, GL_ARB_sparse_texture, appeared in the driver almost exactly a month ago.

With the recent Beta drivers (working in 13.12) I still have problems with chrome, steam, etc. when I click maximize it doesn't maximize to just one screen (5760x1200) but across all three. I have to drag and manually size to a single screen. Any fix for this?

Sounds like you had Hydravision going in 13.12 and didn't realize it. That's the software solution to fix the issue you describe.

Oh, I can vaguely remember a Hydravision tab. But didn't really understand why its not in the new beta drivers. Haven't been on the AMD side in awhile.

I can confirm that my O/C settings (1.3Ghz/1375Mhz memory) are holding quite nicely with these guys! It's nice to not have to use the 13.12s, because they like to cause 2D artifacts in FF for some reason.

Managed to bluescreen with these new drivers from watching less than one minute of Jeff Gerstmann's NYU show.

New tweet!

They must ack this problem, this is getting stupid. I know it's beta, but c'mon, there hasn't been a non-beta THIS YEAR.

Wow, these drivers are extremely aggressive in their video crashing. I forgot for one second and played a video on kickstarter. Instant bluescreen. Perhaps that means there's some progress being made on this issue?

I've had a few system freezes since upgrading to new driver. At least they're only happening when I do stuff (like last night, system hang after closing a fullscreen flash video), not on their own randomly.

Other system hangs were also video-related. Haven't been playing games much this week

I haven't had any video related crashes. Where are you guys seeing these? Embedded Youtube videos, VLC, or something else?

This hasn't even been released yet, I don't know why anyone is complaining

They're not all the time for me, just had a few these past couple days.

And for me it's happening on Adobe Flash videos. No BSODs for me, just system hang a few times (and again, not every time I run a video... maybe 1 out of every 100?). Running 290X CF

Not a huge deal, just something to look out for. No other problems for me so far

Sounds like you have something more going on then what you think. Have you taken the time to do a Fresh Win 7/8.1 install? I haven't seen *ONE* of these issues, and I use HW Accel Flash playback all the time. Also watch a ton of stuff in VLC without issue.

Very good point. I am just happy that they fixed the PowerTune issue that was present in 14.1~14.3!! I figured they would have growing pains like Nvidia did with their first GPU Boost family, but I am glad it is fixed.

Actually, I've had a regular video make my system freeze now.

Was watching one mp4, then closed and opened another. System froze while opening second.

Not the hugest deal, just mildly annoying.

Finally got back to playing BF4 after taking a break.

System freezes consistently for me during Campaign opening. Game loads fine, but during the underwater scene loading everything grinds to a halt and system becomes unresponsive. Tried several times with and without other programs open, but because system freezes reliably I'm going to go ahead and blame the driver.

Reverting to last stable build (13.12) until this gets sorted out, since the instability is more annoying than I first thought.

Relevant System Specs:
i7-3770K
Asus P8P67 Pro
2560x1440 Resolution
Sapphire Reference 290X Crossfire
Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64
OCZ Vector 150 240GB
32GB RAM

Was running game at all Ultra settings w/ 4x MSAA

14.4 hard lock my box the moment it renders in 3D.
