Catalyst 11.5 Hotfix

hmm.... will try on my HD4250/HD5450 CF machine :D I don't have mouse lag normally, so I dunno if my input will be of much help :( (wireless mouse :mad:)

I'm assuming they were talking about the top right mouse lag, but their fix didn't work for me!
 
I need some help here.

Do I install the 11.5 drivers and then install the hotfix afterwards....or do I just install the 11.5a hotfix?
 
Yeah, if they were talking about the top-right corner mouse lag, then this update didn't fix it for me.
 
What's the difference between 11.5 and the hotfix? I downloaded whatever was linked on [H] frontpage because it said it had fixes for the launch of BRINK tomorrow

11.5a hotfix is newer than 11.5, but only difference is official 11.5 is WHQL while hotfix driver isn't.
 
11.5a fixed the top right mouse lag for me. I have RealTemp up there so my cursor never goes there anyway, but good to know...

Not sure if it was this way before but if you disable mouse shadows that fixes it in 11.5a. (In windows anyway not sure about games.) Even with mouse shadows on it's not as bad for me as it was with older drivers (still wouldn't want to play a RTS with it though).

Is there any performance increase associated with this driver in a xfire setup?

I am not experiencing any issues with 11.4 I have now.
 
I am running Xfire 4850's and the 11.5a gave me the biggest performance decrease in BC2, but gave me a performance increase in Brink. That being said, I went back to 10.4a so I can run BC2 again because that game is far superior, AND of course because no other drivers works with these cards setup. Getting pretty aggravated with ATI's driver issues
 
you will probably see a new cap released by the end of the week fixing some of the crossfire issues bdonedge

What other drivers have you tried beyond 10.4a that have given you problems? There certainly are no roadblocks preventing the use of newer drivers with the 4850s. I use the very latest drivers on both my 4850 crossfire rig as well as my main 2x 4870x2 quad-crossfire rig with no issues.

Are you remembering to install the Crossfire Application Profiles also?

There were some drivers released during mid-2010 that caused issues with setups like 4850 crossfire along with 4870 and 4870x2 setups, especially in BC2. All of those issues were resolved with various hotfixes in August and September and the fixes were integrated into the main driver after that. That however seems to have been enough for many people to throw in the towel and stick with 10.4a or 10.5a believing that no newer driver works. That is incorrect.

Though you might try just going with WHQL drivers. Installing hotfix drivers meant to address issues that might not even be relevant to your card can give you unpredictable results. No reason to go with a hotfix driver unless you actually experience the issue it is trying to fix, IMO.

I agree with Gotnorice on this. There was a few bad drivers in the middle of 2010, 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8 which caused problems with crossfire, they fixed problems with a few games but messed up crossfire performance.

But since then drivers have been really good and have addressed most issues. I don't think your problems are caused by AMD drivers.
 
I had major problems with 10.12 through 11.4, the 99% GPU bug and the screensaver/monitor power saving bug. I had been using 10.11s for the past 6 months due to these very annoying bugs.

So far I haven't seen the 99% GPU bug on 11.5, but it'll take a week or so before I can be sure it's fixed as it only occurred intermittently.

The 11.5s definitely fix the monitor powersave bug.

Good release.
 
Finally! Every time I installed a new catalyst driver, the AMD HDMI driver always failed. It actually installed this time :)
 
I've been using the Realtek one still without issue. Are the AMD HDMI drivers the way to go these days?
 
steam updated my video driver to 11.5

i haven't had any driver problems as of yet with my 6870. Didn't have any with my 4870 either.

Only ATI card i ever had problems with drivers was a 2600pro AGP. It was a niche product from vision tek. Back when I x2 i didn't want to upgrade to am2 as i would have needed new ram, video card, mobo and cpu. The 2600pro was a nightmare with drivers. I did get it working.

all the ATI/AMD PCI-E drivers i have ever used have always been just fine. Never had any problems in my games, even on release day on some of them.

I noticed a small improvement in my 3dmark 11 score. Nothing to write home about though maybe 1-2%.

Not sure, was wondering the same thing myself. To the best of my recollection, they haven't changed the HDMI driver in a looooong time (6 months +). It works ok, for the most part. Once in a while, all audio turns into loud static and I jump to turn down my receiver. After a restart, everything is back to ok. Other than that issue it's ok.

The AMD ones are specific to the HDMI port on the graphics card. I have RealTek also for the motherboard.
 
11.5a is working great on my 5870s in my AMD rig. So far so good.

Do you fellows with "mouse lag" push up your pointer speed via your OS? I run mine near max because default has never suited me.

My mouse behavior seems the same on my GTX 480 and on my 5870s. If I have mouse lag, I sure as hell can't tell.

11.5a had a slightly different version in it. HDMI/DP Audio 7.12.0.7701

The versions before that were always 7.12.0.7700 and they failed every time.

Hrmm? Wow. Presuming this is true, AMD should really get their shit together and download the latest CAP profiles automatically. The CCC doesn't have a problem pulling in ads from the internet, it should be able to pull down some CAP files as well.
 
Is it supposed to say 11.5a in Catalyst? I installed the 11.5a hotfix over top of 11.4 and it still said 11.4 when I checked the Information tab. So I installed 11.5 and then the hotfix and it only says 11.5.

Brink does not seem to be any better with this. Maybe the hotfix isn't installing correctly?

Because AMD's installer consistently fails to replace all files with new versions when updating from an older driver package to a newer one.

You'll probably have to uninstall all AMD video drivers, run driver sweeper in safe mode, then install JUST Catalyst 11.5a. Do not install 11.5 first, go directly to 11.5a.
 
It seems you actually have the updated 2D and 3D drivers and the new CCC, just not the driver "package" and the OpenGL driver. Those files probably couldn't be deleted for some reason. I installed 11.5a directly on top of 11.4 with no problems, but the installer is known for being quirky.
