Catalyst 10.10 Released

Yeah release notes don't appear to have been posted yet.

They are the same as the 10.10 betas, just WHQL now. Supposedly the 10.10 leaked betas were great, so I would go ahead and upgrade - I haven't heard of any problems.

you can bank on these being excellent drivers...seems like ATI/AMD saves their best drivers for a new video card launch

In fairness, they've had months to work on the drivers for new cards :) So they should be pretty damn solid at release. If drivers aren't good at release (remember old S3 boards?) you can be sure the product is pretty much f'd.

10.10a should be out today as well.

Are you joking or do you actually have some kind of useful information about this?

Asking because previously, seperate hotfixes were released for 4870x2 and 4850x2 users, in the case of 10.9a, right after the official drivers were posted. I'm curious if 4870x2 users should wait for another hotfix or if those fixes were included in this driver.

Catalyst Maker posted on his Twitter account that 10.10a would be released...he didn't specifically say that it would be out today but it is coming

I heard next week and its supposed to bring MLAA function to the 6000 series. :)
Was in one of the many reviews I read, but cannot remember which one.

Information from CatalystMaker:

RT @laurencenoton: @catalystmaker if 10.10 whql are out today can we expect a 10.10a hotfix (non WHQL) as well? ME - yes you can

Basically the 10.10 WHQL are the same as the betas from some 10 days ago, it takes time to get them WHQL tested thus by the time they've come back they added in a few fixes etc to the ones they sent. Thus you get the official WHQL drivers and also normally right after them an A version.

how long does it take for the drivers to show up on the official AMD site?

Release notes are working now. I'd cut and paste them but there are a lot of performance increases and a few new features so I'd suggest just viewing them, it's only an 80KB PDF.

Video accleration for WMV HD® video content
  • This release of AMD Catalyst provides video acceleration support for WMV HD® (Microsoft video codec) under Windows 7
  • Compatible with the ATI Radeon™ HD 5000 Series of products

Kind of misleading considering UVD has always supported VC-1. Funniest part is.. there's an extra component in the installer just for this.

Edit: Great, they broke DXVA prior to rebooting after installing the drivers.. again.

what is this new "AMD Catalyst Accelerated Parallel Processing (“APP”) technology Edition" version of the drivers?...seems to contain the OpenCL driver...which one should I download?...what's OpenCL used for?

the OpenCL version is 92.1 MB vs 75.9 for the standard edition

So between 10.10 and 10.10a there is no fixes for Fallout New Vegas? Crossfire is completely broken in this game and there are lots of bugs with slowdowns, low GPU usage that really need to be addressed.

This is way OT but do SLI configs suffer from game issues as much as CFX setups? Can't wait to try these new drivers.

Wow, no Fallout New Vegas fixes at all.
Since you apparently don't know how AMD's driver release schedule works, or how WHQL certification works, WHQL certification takes about a month to confirm. So these drivers posted today "Went gold" early this month at the latest, well before the release of Fallout New Vegas. The newer 10.10a drivers posted hopefully later today may add Fallot New Vegas tweaks/fixes, but the 10.10 WHQL drivers were written and finalized before F:NV was available.

Edit: Looks like 10.10a don't have F:NV fixes yet either. Oh well. The game runs fine for me, but I have crossfired 5870s, so one of my cards is enough to run the game full out. I wouldn't hate on AMD too hard for this, the Gamebryo engine is notoriously shitty and it's most likely game bugs just as much as it is problems with AMD's drivers, since Fallout 3 runs fine.

If your experiencing a lot of slow down, copy/paste the Fallout New Vegas exe and rename it to fallout3.exe - my FPS nearly doubled. I think it's falloutNV.exe.

I will try that, I really just want crossfire working correctly, i didn't shell out all that money on a 5970 to only use half of it.

Since you apparently don’t know how my posting history works, I’ll inform you that yes, I do know that the WHQL certification process takes a few weeks. I’ll also inform you that New Vegas has been in development for years and runs on an engine that worked just fine when it was used in Fallout 3.

The WHQL process is only an excuse if New Vegas had been conceived, developed, and released after AMD submitted 10.10 for certification. But they didn’t, so it’s not.

That’s… sort of the point. It’s the same engine. Crappy or not, Fallout 3 and the various DLC packs run smoothly, so there’s really no excuse here.

Cool, an integrated OpenCL download option.

And damn... look at the that Known Issues list... D:

That points me toward the fact that it may be more game bugs than driver issues if the previous game on the same engine worked, as AMD would be coding their drivers to work with the engine as well as the full game.

New Vegas is certainly a buggy game, and I’m sure that Obsidian could stand to issue some performance patches, but I don’t think that’s the primary culprit.

Forgive me for not investigating the posting history of every person I reply to on a message board with 100,000+ posters.

If a previous game using the same engine runs fine, then that would lend itself more to game specific issues rather than an AMD specific problem. Especially given how notoriously poor Gamebryo is. Fallout New Vegas launched with a lot of issues, especially on consoles, so it's obvious that good Q&A was not a part of the dev process here. Give it a week or two and it will be fine. I've had F:NV since launch day and I've put 10 hours into it without any obvious graphical problems (although the game deleted my fucking save, gah). And if you want to argue this, I would suggest just looking at all the different games that use the Unreal 3 engine, and how the performance and capabilities of that engine varies widely from title to title.

And of course Fallout 3 runs fine now, it's 2 years old and anything specific to that game has already been fixed.

hoping ill get some XF performance games in FFXIV when i get home. probably wont happen but hey - i like to keep my hopes up

I think the biggest performance improvement would happen by uninstalling.:D
