Castlevania Advance Collection

Yeah, Circle of the Moon definitely had slowdown. Especially on big bosses like the double zombie dragons or if you used one of the full screen summon attacks.

The little "help" that lets you know which monsters drop cards in COTM combined with the instant rewind feature letting you grind SUPER easy makes this version awesome.
Also the Audio is definitely better. I'm playing the Switch Version btw.
I do like the tooltip popup, but it is a little annoying that it shows with every hit you make on the same monster. They at least let you turn it off if you don't need it.

MiSTer isn't really portable though which is sort of best for these things. This sort of game is really made for something like the Switch or Steam Deck. I'm also interested in tossing money at these things because that means more get made.

Seriously, he whips out the "Mister FPGA is not Portable," and then offers counters with devices that weigh several times what Nintendo's 3ds did LOL

(Switch OG = 2x 3ds, and the deck is over twice the weight of OG Switch)

I'm playing back every GBA game under the sun (along with PSP, many Dreamccast, and all SNEs on my $80 145g RGB10. It has the exact same screen form-factor as GBA, and actually weighs less than my old 3ds (and you don't have to gait for re packaged releases like these twenty years later)

I agree with that. These games were obviously best on the GBA. (GBA SP) ;)

But for the best, fastest, most accurate, flexible (though not portable) play, the MiSTer is the way to go.

Switch is great! I play most of my modern 2D games on it. If it’s MiSTer standing still, or emulation on the go though, I think I’d still choose the MiSTer. FPGA vs emulation is night and day.

There are some people attempting portable MiSTer builds though, so in the future…

If someone laid out a compact PCB with the Cyclone FPGA, RAM, basic IO, and D to A, it would work very well. The eval boards that the basic MiSTer builds use isn’t completely conducive to the task due to the placement of things, headers, etc.

You can mod up a GBA or an SP for a better screen and other items. I'm a bit of a purist in some ways. I actually own the arcade boards for the games I love and have real cabs. Just as I keep a DOS machine and an XP machine about. I don't have anything against emulation or the mister either.

FWIW, the best most accurate way to play things is well... if not the original here https://www.analogue.co/

Nothing at all wrong with those options. I still prefer the MiSTer over the Analogue products, but there’s no denying that they’re cool, well made pieces of hardware made by people that know what they’re doing.

I actually like the DIY nature of the MiSTer, the community around it, some of the obscure offerings on it, etc. Plus, I’ve built around 6-7 of them now. I find it fun.

Anyway, yeah real/original hardware is great, other FPGA options are too.

i still own dawn of sorrow. I remember clearly when i finished it . i was so satisfied

I have my DS physical carts for DoS, OoE, PoR. I don't have the boxes though.

I still have the physicals of most of the CVs, including Chi No Rondo

I had one. Got it when it was still in the sub-$200-ish range (early 2000s or so). I wish I still had it. Still have my SoTN disc somewhere though, not that it’s as desirable. :D

I think oddly Chronicles for the PS sells for more now. Which is a game that really should get a new edition.

I’ve got my original disc for that, and a not so original of the original X68000 version. (Though I haven’t learned to use the core for it yet :D )

Started playing Harmony, and boy is this game dull as dish water. No wonder I've always quit playing it around halfway through. I am really struggling trying to have the motivation to finish it. I know it's a short game, but still...

I only played it once, but I remember liking it. Not like Aria, but I played after Aria, and it was a nice change of pace. It’s pretty basic, but I didn’t think it was too bad.
