How do I know how much space I need within a case? (especially since this is my first time building a computer)

Right now I'm not even able to approach the topic of brand/specifications because I'm still debating between a full tower and a mid tower.

My starting specifications of my computer-to-be is in my signature but I would also like easy room to fiddle inside for OCing and WCooling (which I haven't done yet, so I don't even know if it takes much space... but from pictures and guides, it looks like it) as well as room for an additional HD4850.

And of course, high-quality ventilation would be great. Could someone recommend me a case that fits these, particularly with bang-for-the-buck in mind?

Sorry, I would look around but I don't even know how big my components would be or how they would fit together in the case.
 
Do you have a particular budget in mind? Most decent cases these days will fit all of your hardware fine, so it really comes down to how much money you have to spend and what your personal preferences are. I suggest you go to Newegg's site and look through the offerings of a few manufacturers, like Antec, Coolermaster, Lian-Li, etc., and see if anything catches your eye.

It's a good cooling case but IMO overpriced at $120. The Coolermaster RC-690 case recommended above is about the same as the Antec 900 both in terms of cooling and quality yet is $60 cheaper.
 
Since you like the looks of the 900, the Coolermaster Centurion 590 would probably be a good fit, as well as being a better case in general. It has better tool-less features, build quality, and layout, and its cooling abilities are just as good. It's priced identically to the 690 that Danny suggested, and he listed a link to it in his first post here. It's design is more similar to the 900 than the Coolermaster 690, so you may like it more.
