I was looking at the HAF X and started thinking about what would happen if they sealed off the bottom, keeping the PSU where it is with a hard drive mounting system in front of it. Then changing the drive cages to a modular design with one dedicated spot at the top?front of the case for a optical drive. then you stack two 240mm fans in the front of the case. Without the drive cages in the way you remove what I would think is quite a bit of turbulence. Keeping the rest of the fans where they are. Additionally, how feasible would it be to have a built in power supply next to the regular PSU just to run the fans off of. You could keep it small and have a built in monitoring system that connects to one of the USB ports on the mother board. This would leave the main PSU free to power just the main components. What do you think?

P.S. I don't know if any of this has been done or talked about before, but I cant find any info on any of it.
 
join the modding community and make your own and find out! but for real, the psu idea is a good one except for price. having something like that would add like $30-40, a significant amount for a midtower case. fans dont take much power, so just get a fan controller and use one molex to power it and you can control 6 or whatever fans. the turbulence doesnt really matter since the air is still pulled out the side, so it goes where its supposed to either way.

Its feasible but not cost-effective nor does it make any kind of sense. As ekuest pointed out, fans do not take that much power and a dedicated PSU for just the fans will cost quite a bit of extra money for really really small savings. It'll be more cost-effective to sink the money that you were gonna spend on a dedicated fan PSU and put that towards a larger actual PSU.
