Carrying case for internal HDs?

Hey all, this is the closest forum I could find that pertained to what I am looking for.

I'm looking to buy a couple carrying cases that are designed to hold internal hard drives that are easily opened / closed and help a bit against shock. I would use these when transporting my PC... simply take my HD's out of my V1000, put them in the carrying cases, and go. I could bring just a HD full of data to a friend's this way, as I need to keep my computer in the trunk of my car when travelling. I'm not really looking for one of those all in one 5.25" HD coolers as it will only be used for storage, and every one of those I have seen requires a screwdriver to get open.

They key factors for me are shock protection and fast / easy to open.

Does anyone have any ideas / substitutions? Sorry if this is in the wrong area - but I figured the modders would know a bit about this, =] Thanks!

Hrm, if you're doing this for safety reasons your HD is probably just as safe on the computer case as it is in a separate carrying case while traveling... However if you just wanna be able to take it and go then your best bet might be making your own.

It sounds like a hassle though, how often do you go to a friend's house and hook up a drive internally to his own PC? Wouldn't buying an external enclosure and tossing a spare drive in it make more sense?

Anyway, it shouldnt't be hard to make your own out of the foam and plastic most drives come packaged in these days. My last Seagate came in this hard plastic shell (it opens up like a clam and snaps close) and that was in turn placed between two slabs of foam about an inch or two thick, you can probably toss that in any bag w/o much fear.

Thanks for the tips. I'd actually mainly be taking these out as I transported my comp. I just worry about hitting hard bumps. If my HDs are in cases in a bag or suitcase with some clothes in a case to protect them from shock and static, I wouldnt have to worry nearly as much about them getting killed.

I'm definitely going to try to look for some of those seagate cases. Thanks for the tip!

It's just disposable packaging, I doubt you're gonna be able to find it anywhere other than from someone that's bought a brand new drive, if your case is bumping around in the trunk of your car or something I'd be as equally worried about add-in cards and the HSF unit as I'd be about the hard drives tho... 'Course some data is irreplaceable and no part is.
