Carmack making a head mounted display

I remember playing heretic on a head mounted display 16 years ago...

Was pretty cool to use your head to look around instead of the mouse.

But can they bump up resolution enough to be really useful? Sonys 720p set just wasnt enough. Also sonys hmd has a lot of lag.

I like Carmack John Romero and the bit but they stray too far from what made Quake and Doom a good game. I liked Rage but I can see why people didn't like it.

I'm definitely interested in checking it out. I hope it's a success.

Kickstarter coming:

Please please please be awesome.

The increased FOV sounds awesome "Horizontal FOV of ~90 degrees, vertical FOV of ~110 degrees, more than 5x the total image size than the HMZ-T1". I do have my doubts about the lack of independent screens. Hopefully cross talk will not be a problem. Having just recently read Ready Player One I can't help but be reminded of Halliday when I read about Carmack's VR obsession.

I hope Carmack can make some large strides. I had the Sony 3D display and it was a no-go on many fronts. The largest challenge is getting 1080P at 120 Hz with low input lag. That will require DP or DL-DVI, something that limits the device to computers only pretty much.

720P is just too low of a resolution.
