Capture cards to record gameplay with a second computer?

Basically, all I want to do is get a capture card for my secondary rig, split the signal coming out of my main gaming rig, and send it to it to record. Ideally send game audio as well, but preferably not Teamspeak or music audio.

Problem 1: not sure which capture card to get. Blackmagic, AVerMedia, Hauppauge... it seems like most of them have pretty scary reviews. Don't particularly need anything fancy though.

Problem 2: I have a Samsung S27A950D, which doesn't seem to like doing 120Hz over anything but DisplayPort, so it seems like getting a simple HDMI splitter is out. Would like to be able to record while keeping my gaming experience intact.

Gaming rig:

i7 4770k @ 4.2 GHz
MSI Mpower Max
16GB DDR3-2133
7970 x2
Soundblaster Z

Workstation:

i5 2500k @ 4.2 GHz
ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3
16GB DDR3-1600
6870
X-Fi Titanium Pro PCI-E

Thoughts? I have enough experience with video editing software that I should be fine once I have this all sorted out, but this part I've never actually done before, so I feel a little lost. Thanks.

I've tried something like this, before. Using a Hauppauge Colossus on my HTPC and my laptop.

So it's technically doable (the Colossus, BTW, was completely unsupported by any streaming service, I don't know if that has changed).

However, what you are proposing is a very different setup. Much more difficult, from what I can see. Even proper 1080p60 HDMI capture cards are quite expensive (or at least were, less than 6 months ago; not the regular old 1080p30 stuff that flooded the market).

I use NVidia's shadowplay, nowadays. Good luck on your setup!

Thanks. I'll probably have to live with 1080p30, unless one of those cheaper cards can do 1080i60 and I can just deinterlace it later (might be a hassle, but if that's an option I figure it's not like I don't have the spare processing power to do it).
