Capcom announced that it plans to release Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition for PC and PlayStation 4 in January 2018: the updated version of the popular fighting title will feature 28 characters and several other updates to the base game. The highlight of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition is an Arcade Mode that allows you to fight against computer-controlled opponents in a series of story-driven matches that change depending on the character you choose to play.

True to its name, Arcade Mode is coming to Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition and will be an experience ripe with nostalgia. Furthermore, we’re adding in Extra Battle Mode, a Gallery, and completely redesigning the UI to amplify the epic quality of this new version. From the beginning, we promised that you’ll only need to purchase the original Street Fighter V, which we’re sticking to. All the new gameplay-related content – Arcade Mode, Extra Battle Mode, a second V-Trigger, the Gallery, and more – will be available as part of a free in-game update for current players!

This should of been already in the game, what was Capcom thinking? This is a patch right? Right?

I haven't been keeping up much with the drama on this one, but didn't they manage to piss everyone off on the last release? Try, try again.

That's all streetfighter games are, updates in the form of a new version so they can charge more, champion edition, turbo edition, new challengers, new challengers turbo etc.

Ordinarily I'd chalk this up to the growing trends in games with DLC and season passes and stuff. However i feel street fighter is unique in that it's been pulling this stunt since the old Street Fighter 2 days (The World Warrior, Special Champion Edition, Turbo, New Challengers )

So with both trends coinciding at this point if anyone is surprised by this it's really more their fault than Capcom's.

Nope. This is typical Capcom for most their fighting games since the SNES days. Sure they could do a DLC patch for the base game but why not milk the fan base.

Stoked for this big update, this is the refresh the game needed, I think it's going to draw a lot of new players in and bring a lot of those who dropped it back. The fighting game scene is booming big time and it looks like SF is going hang on as it's most popular game for a while yet.

Hopefully an actual arcade cabinet isn't far behind!
