Hello [H],

This summer i was thinking of not using any AC for my room. My desktop which was running [email protected] ghz, was lowered to [email protected] with everything else remaining the same. I have kept it at 2.4 now for about a month or two.

Recently i decided i needed the 3.0 overclock again so i go and change the multiplier which i usually do and i can boot into windows but windows will not function correctly.

If i lower it back down to 2.4 everything works ok. What do you think is causing this? Wouldn't I have 3.0 capabilities still? Are my chips failing now?

I am watercooling and the increase summer temps should be fine. Last summer, i did not lower the overclock and was running fine normal even with elevated temps.

I don't understand why i wouldn't be able to run it at 3.0 again.

I have changed nothing in the setup. Just slowed the overclock down and now can't get it back up.

Weird isn't it?

I had the same probelm with my DS2R and E8400..

Ran 4.4ghz all day long for months.. Changed it and it wouldn't go back..

Replaced the motherboard and all is fine now.

If i have to replace anything to get back to 3.0 its not going to be worth it.

I guess 2.4 it is from now on till i build a new desktop.

2 x Prestonia Xeons 1.6ghz @ 2.4ghz @ 1.6v or 1.5v (I can't remember)
Asus PC-DL Deluxe
2GB ram

yadda yadda

So after 3+ years with my WinXP installation and how screwed up it was...

Today i decided to reformat my computer.

Reformating really sucks.

But the good news, i can use my 3.0GHZ OC again!

I think my windows installation was so screwed up that anything changing would crash it.
