Hi,
I just bought new hardware and as a result did a format of my OS drive and installed XP again. I'm trying to share some folders on the machine, but I can't get my XP MCE HTPC to get access to the folders no matter what I try. The new machine can see the other one no problem and access the shared folders.

Neither machine uses a password to log on. I right clicked on the folders and enabled sharing. There are no firewalls installed on either except the default Win XP firewall, and that one has file sharing as an exception to allow traffic.

Both computers are in the same workgroup, and on the HTPC I can see the other computer, I just can't access it. It used to be that when I double clicked on it, it would just say "unable to access", but then I ran the network setup wizard on the new computer, and now it connects and prompts for a password, but nothing I've tried works.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Adrian

1) Always have passwords....for networking's sake, and for security's sake.
2) Do you have simple fisher-price sharing turned off? If not, then disable it.

When you shared the folders, did you check the "Allow network users to change my files"?

Just an idea.

Oh and can the old machine see and access the new HTPC?
