Do the partitions show up in Windows Management?
Right-click My Computer -> Manage -> Disk Management (under Storage) -> Try to find partitions and format through there.

If this does not work, you can try to fdisk from DOS with Norton Ghost and see if that works.

hey nthey are there and i can delete all the extra partions but when i boot i still get the ssame prblem. when i go to pick where to insstall windowss at there is no hd found...

Get Norton Ghost and make it a bootable CD so you can load fdisk from DOS. Once it boots, it gives you the path: A:
Type "fdisk" and follow the on-screen steps to create a primary partition. Shouldn't take more than 2 minutes. After that, try to reboot and install windows onto the newly-created partition.

hey, how do you make norton ghost in to a bootable disk?

is it an option?? where is the image file?

thanks

Sounds like Windows XP with new SATA controllers. Boot into the BIOS and set your SATA ports to IDE, Legacy, IDE-Legacy, or whatever it is.

are you using a sata drive? you might need to install the drivers for windows to see the hdd. thats what it sounds like to me.

yeah im using a sata HD how would o go about installing the drivers if i deleted the OS?

I just installed a second hard drive into my system and I have the latest window updates for my system. The system detects the hard drive, tells me that it is working find when I go to system properties but it does not show up when I go to My Computer. It only shows my current devices (floppy, disk drive, hard disk drive) but not the added drive I just installed. Can someone help me with this?

Kmat,
go in to control panel, administrative tools, computer management, disk management.... See if it shows up at the bottom of that window. IF it does. Right click on it and either, format... or initalize it. Should work after that.

It show up at the bottom of the screen but it does not give me the option of reformatting it. Just partitioning it. I dont want to partition it. Just to use it for back up storage on the system. Should I partition it?

i was trying to do what this guy said....

ill try that link and let you know how it goes

K tell us about the drives. What manufacturer, what rpm, what bus type?

You could very well have a dead, or mis-interpretted by windows, IDE controller.

You need to provide drivers for XP on a floppy when your PC is booting up.
Youll see a blue screen with a prompt to push F6 to provide drivers......

Either provide the drivers, or go into the BIOS and find a setting for the hard drive's Sata mode..you want the legacy mode, or whatever other option is different from whats currently showing in the BIOS.

What model HP ?

its a fujtsu 80gig 5200rpm sata
hp pavilion dv2000

the only option in bios is to enabla or disabel sata support....
right now its enabled..

thanks
