built system last nite ASUS P5W DH..went together fine ...i can overclock using ther overclock option@ 3.0) but when try to raise manually from stock 266 ill enter even 270 or anything it locks up frezes?1707 bios ...is some settings i have to disable to manually over clock ?im runnin some corsair extreme ddr2 1066 ive upped ram voltage to 2.1 and vcore to 1.4 ..im runnin a 6600 conroe..i ran this cpu on a evga 680 i @ 3.5 till motherboard died ..thanks cya

you probably have some arcane bios setting set wrong. here is what i used to get 3700mhz on air with a 6600, 1305 bios i think.

heres what i used

ok
in bios
on the jumperfree page
set ai overclocking to manual
set cpu freq to 360 (to start)
set dram freq to ddr720 (to start)
leave performance mode on auto
set pci express freq to 110
set pci clock synch mode to 33.3mhz
set mem voltage to 2.20v (to start)
set set cpu core voltage to 1.4000v (to start)
set fsb term voltage to 1.5v
set mch chipset voltage to 1.65v
set ich voltage to 1.20

on cpu config page
disable all except microcode updation

on chipset page
set config dram timing by spd to enabled
dram ecc to disabled
hyper3 disable
dram throttling disabled
leave other stuff on auto

good luck.

so your at 3.5 now? good. some of these stupd settings can kill your whole oc, as you now know. good luck on your way up.

edit i had an older board that only let you set mch chipset voltage to 1.65v. newer revs allow up to 1.85v. try setting this higher than 1.65v to get higher fsb. i dont think it will do much for your overall clock speed, but might let you run @ 8x450 rather than 9x400. maybe.

Hmm...maybe I'll go back in and play with my OC on my P5W. Maybe I'm missing something small and I'll be able to get over 3.3Ghz stable.

what about the ram ...i have them in orange slots ...are they the optimal slots ...thanks

i havent had my p5w since the first week of november so i cant say for sure. but i do remember that on my board the ram ran the same in either set of slots.
