After a surprisingly painless install on my desktop and liking it more than I imagined, I over enthusiastically decided to install Win 8 on my girlfriends aging and generally annoying Dell XPS m2010 (the giant laptop/desktop thing they brought out a few years ago).
It was running Windows 7 fine but after installing Windows 8 I can only get the resolution to go up to 1400 x 1050 instead of the native 1780 x 1050, so everything is stretched.
Windows update shows no optional updates and has given it a generic ms driver,I have tried to install the old graphics drivers via Catalyst suite but that didn't seem to do anything, and having installed it and it searching for hardware I now can't seem to find where it's located or how to open it, either way the same driver is still showing. I have searched around on Dells site for drivers but all I could find was an old 32bit Vista driver. I installed x64 Win 8 which was possibly stupid.
Does anyone have any helpful suggestions? She gets back from holiday soon and isn't going to appreciate my tinkering.
