cant enable sli

Hi,
I have just put together my new rig. Try to go sli for the first time. My problem is i cannot enable the sli mode. Can anybody help???
Im running asus a8n with a 64 winchester 1gig of corsair twinx and two raptors.
 
switch the bridge on the motherboard between the pci-e x16 slots to dual card mode... or install new drivers? What point are you currently at in setting up this machine?
 
the driver tels me. "your graphics card features sli. add a second card for improvements etc. but ther is no option to enable sli
 
Do you own two video cards that are from the same manufacturer, have the same BIOS, and are the same model (i.e. 6600GT, 6800, 6800GT, 6800Ultra)?
 
Did you buy them at the same time? If so it is probably not the BIOS. Have you tried to run each one separately to make sure that they both work as a single card?
 
What driver are you using? Do you have the EZ selector card pointed so that it has Dual Cards pointing down? Do you have the bridge connector on the "golden fingers" of the cards?
 
Well the ez selector card, i found that a little confusing. Right now the single side is in the slot and the dual side is pointing to the second video card
 
The dual side should be connected into the adapter and are you sure you have 66.97s or 66.93s, the latest officials from nVidias site?
 
Have you tried the officials from nVidia's site. But regardless, no driver is going to work unless you get the EZ selector card pointed in the right direction first. And you have the bridge connecting the "golden fingers" on the top of the cards right? It should have come with the motherboard.
 
Right now im just running one card but this morning i trie the two cards and it didnt work with the ez selector in dual and the bridge
 
It is very picky, the EZ selector card. If you don't insert it just right all kinds of different things can happen. You need to gently push it in until it barely clicks.
 
I have just installed the second card and now the driver tells me that I have to remove any graphisc cards that are not compatible with sli before i can enable sli.
 
Did you also try forcing the SLI setting in the BIOS to SLI instead of Auto after you set the EZ Selector card to dual and plugging in the bridge to both cards?
 
have you tryed one at a time in each slot and run benchmark so see if all works well....?
 
So let me try to run though what we have here:

1. Own two EVGA 6600GTs that were purchased at the same time.
2. EZ-selector card is plugged in as Dual operation.
3. Bridget connector is connected to "golden fingers" on the two cards (does not matter orientation BTW).
4. Using 66.97 drivers (these may not be SLI capable, I would try the officials from nVidia's site).
5. Both cards run fine by themselves.

I am running out of ideas; here is what I would try next:

1. Uninstall current drivers through Add/Remove Programs, boot into Safe Mode and run Driver Cleaner (http://www.drivercleaner.net), then boot normally and install the official nVidia driver version 66.93.

2. Try to determine if the BIOSes on the cards are the same. I am unsure of the utility to do this but do a search on the forums or someone here may be kind enough to lend a hand.

3. Try an updated BIOS for the motherboard.

That is all I can come up with at the moment.

sheesh :confused: ...one of thoes card ( or mobo ) is damaged..that is the only way that you could be having problems :rolleyes:
 
having that all said..can you post pictures of you setup?... the sexy SLI gets me everytime
 
Check the connection of the bridge on top of the cards. The top of the letters printed on it should be closest to the back of your case. Push it down firmly. The EZSelector should have the Dual closest to the second card.

The molex on the motherboard near the PCIE slots needs to have a power cable plugged into it.

Once this is done, reinstall your drivers and select "Enable SLI" when prompted, reboot.

If all cards, EZ Selector, and top bridge are seated firmly, and none is defective, this will work- it's all there is.

Good luck- I have the same rig you do, reseating all as noted above worked for me when I had trouble. :)

Don't know if you got it working or not, but I think it's a driver issue. I tried the beta drivers from Nvidia.com, and got stuck in a boot loop/BSOD with 6600GT's. Then I downloaded the 71.81 drivers that I saw on this forum, booted into safe mode, driver cleaner, installed the new drivers and SLI worked great ever since.

I think one should always used stock settings, final BIOSes, and official drivers intially. That is why I recommend that one first install the official 66.93s from nVidia's site and only try other driver revisions after it works with these.

While not an official driver, they are WHQL certified if you're into that kind of thing. Like I said, they worked great for me, although I never did try the 66.93's with SLI :).

It doesn't matter if they are WHQL certified, they may not have SLI functionality. I know that some drivers out there will not allow SLI to work, hence this could be your entire problem right there. At least with the officials I am absolutely certain that SLI is supported as they are the very drivers I am running right now.
 
any suggestion how i can update the bios on the cards?
Never updated a bios on a videocard before
