My wife's dell laptop has blue screened a few times in the past 3 months. I finally looked into it today because she was in school and I noticed it diddn't have SP1 installed and according to the report that came with the crash via microsoft, it said to install it to fix the problem. The only thing is, it (SP1) has never showed up in the automatic updates nor will it install manually, it gives an error. Now before I go searching around the net I was wondering if this is a common problem or has anybody else had the same experiance.

No problems here, probably related to the error its giving you when you try to manually install it.

Vista SP1 has some issues related to some specific drivers that might be on your system, and how they impact the Windows servicing store. A common side effect of this..is SP1 will not manually install, or show up as available in your Microsoft Windows Updates.

Every single time I've run into this issue....the "System Update Readiness" tool has fixed the issue for me and allowed SP1 to install.
