from my friend -

he's saying he's at 5.2ghz (per this screenshot), at 1.4v, on the stock cooler.. seeing 51C under load.

do you add the core speeds together, to get 5.2ghz?

My reaction is that he's not under load, so he's LITERALLY running at 1.3ghz due to Cool & Quiet, or whatever.

That is what it looks like to me. You do not add frequencies.

No you don't. Otherwise I would be at 16.8gh/z or something.

The speed of that processor is only 1.3gh/z (!?) the individual frequencies are for each core. These are never added together as they are sperate modules. There must be some kind of power saving low multiplyer thing going on, because the normal frequency for that CPU is 3.4 not 1.3. Unless it's an april fools joke :p

45c is pretty hot for a idle tempreture...Tell them to go buy a proper heatsink.

It is at 1.3GHz. 216 x 6. Stock is 200 x 17 on the 965. Your friend is a bit ignorant about clockspeeds lol. He may have cool & quiet enabled.

Ok - just making sure, thought I was losing it.

This of course was in response to my posting of a screenshot showing my 2500 @ 5ghz. So I think he's just having some Intelenvy and went to see what he could do

he said he's on the stock cooler, and seeing 51C. His 'benchmark' was the Windows Experience test. I'm trying to be nice and helpful about it, lol [up]

I lol'ed hard .

If this is a taste of his intellect then he should not be overclocking anything. He obviously has no idea what he is doing.

P.S. : it is very funny though

maybe he has cool and quiet enabled and hes running under load at 24x216.72@5201?
ask him to show a SS under load to prove it.
