I am getting an intel x25 80gb ssd

I want to format my computer and put windows 7 on the ssd, but whenever I format windows 7 right now is there anyway I can save my media and files for school other than cramming them on a flash drive?

um, really simple..install Win7 onto the SSD, have your current drive disconnected, once installed, connect your current drive back up, should show up as D or E letter, then copy your files off of it to the SSD, once your sure everything is saved, then format the 'old' drive

You seem to be over thinking this process. I wouldn't do a thing to your old drive, aside from remove it from the computer and put it in a safe place. Once Windows 7 is installed on your new SSD, then hook up the old drive.
