I just recently purchased the e4300 and when I ran core temp Ive been getting 60degree celcius on both cores :/. Is that too hot? I think its because of the thermal paste, so do you think I should get some thermal paste and re apply thermal paste onto the cpu? Thanks. Using stock heatsink fan btw.

anyone?! :p, well I re applied my thermal paste and now its down to 50 degrees celcius... well haven't been running anything intense yet and before I was running fsx :p. For any one thats wondering, my case has really good airflow, a 120mm intake fan (Front) 80mm side fan(exhaust) and a 80mm on the rear(exhaust) * will post pic tommorrow when I have time. Or should I simply just go out and buy a zalman 9700?
 
Mine, 43 degrees Celcius at idle. And the 4300 running @ 2,8GHz

stock hsf? and im not asking on how your cpu is doing I need a solution to fix the cooling issue! :p time to go to bed now, so I wont be checking this until like after noon time (CST)

Regardless of what cooler you have on it, its too hot.
Could be a few things. Make sure you used the right amount of thermal grease. I don't know how many idiots I have seen dump an entire tube of as5 on their chip and wonder why its hot. You need about a grain of rice (even then thats a LOT). I put as little as I can on and spread it out JUST enough to barely cover copper on you hs.

If thats not the case, you may want to make sure you have the hsf clamped on (those intel s775 hsf's are a pain in the butt to get on correctly).

Tjunction is just the temperature where alarms start going off and the CPU starts throttling itself to keep from frying, IIRC. Either that, or it has something to do with the way the temp is measured, but 100C is not the temp itself (as you can probably deduce from the fact that each core is only about 60C).

Still, your temps are too high if what you're posting is idle temps. My idle is between 24C and 40C depending on which temp monitor I'm using (there are several and results are all over the place). My load goes up to 67-69, but only because I'm overclocked to 3.27. Course, I'm also using the Ultra-120 extreme.

I'd say you need two things (in addition to re-applying thermal paste, which it looks like you already did and got an improvement). 1) A better HSF than stock. 2) Better case airflow. Try your best to make sure your fans are blowing the CPU's hot air OUT of the case and not around in it.
 
Definitely too hot imho. My E4300 is idling at 38C and reaching not more than 60C under load, all this at 3.38 GHz. Granted I got a better HSF but normally the stock HSF should be able to keep up. Check the mounting and make sure all 4 pins is clamped properly (I got the same system on my SI-128 and after some testing, i found out one of four isn't well clamped, causing a rise of 10-15C.

I solved my issue by buying a bolt-thru LGA775 mounting set for my SI-128.

I feel warm air coming out from the back side of the case but not really on the side(side fan directly on top of the cpu fan) every fan is working and the wires are not in the way. For the thermal paste I spread it all out on the cpu. Also I just noticed that I will probably have a problem installing the zalman heatsink fan*havent bought yet* *will take picture of it later to show you what I mean when I have time.. Later!

If the room temperature is 85-90F, then 50 degrees at idle is completely normal.
 
The E4300 has been produced with both an 85C and a 100C Tjunction temperature and there is no software available that can tell the difference. Not CoreTemp, not SpeedFan and not even Intel TAT. The absolute value of a C2D is completely undocumented by Intel so software developers are left to guess. Sometimes they guess right but not always.

Head to this thread if you're interested in trying to find out what Tjunction your processor really is. You need to know Tjunction before you can accurately determine an absolute temperature for your processor.
 
mine will idle at 24C @ 3.0 GHZ looking at the Gigabyte monitoring software.

Core temp is around 34 at idle.

At full load Orthos i get 52-57 In teh gigabyte software.
65-70 in core temp.

This is using a Ninja Rev. B. that i just lapped a bit. Lapping it brought the temperatures down by around 5C in the gigabyte utility.

These things seem to have a concave heat spreader and as such you need to make sure that the bottom of your heatsink is not concave as well.
 
A 4300 at stock speeds should never get close to 60 whether idle or under load, unless you ambient temperature is through the roof.

1) lap the heatsink
2) lap the CPU
3) use a very small amount of decent thermal compound like arctic silver or with similar specs, dont believe all the BS that arctic silver is the only way to go :rolleyes:
4) re-seat and make sure the whole thing is set properly.

no way in the world am I going to lap my cpu and heatsink... #1, well definitly void warrenty #2 I might screw it up during the process. Well I changed one of the fan to be an intake, added in another fan, and re applied the thermal paste with the cooler master thermal compound that came with my wc unit for my amd system. Yet I am still getting 48degrees.. well 2 degrees lower :rolleyes: Then I just read hmz's post saying how if the room temp is around 85 farenheit then that temp is normal, well in the house the temp is 80 degrees farenhiet so I guess theres nothing to worry about the cpu? *going to turn the ac cooler and see if that help the temp.

forgot to add... I remembered reading about a utility that can raise/lower the speed of the fan for the cpu?
 
ok well I saw that on newegg for the e4300 like that the safe voltage for it is 1.225V-1.325V and in core temp it is the highest safe voltage(1.325) So do you think I should bring down the voltage to 1.225 and that will most likely bring down the temp eh? I won't be doing any over clocking right now because Ive seen a huge performance gain with my 8800gts and core 2 duo over my ati fire gl x3 256 and amd 3200+ :D
 
open up the case and touch the heatsink without touching anything else(don't want to fry anything). If your heatsink is pretty warm to the touch then you are probably getting good enough contact with the chip. If the heatsink is cool then there is probably some contact issues between the cpu and the hsf
 
Stock cooling @ 2.0GHz mine idles at 58C. I plan to get a pretty good 3rd party cooler.
 
mine idles in the 4x *c range at 2.7Ghz...something is wrong with your setup dude.

the side was exhaust when the case came in... So far all the cases ive had seen is where that the side fan*side panel* are all exhaust. Well I am still getting around 50degrees for idle temp. Also there is no place in the case for 120mm fans :/ well one in the front but its a intake, I disconnected the intake to see if it will help cool down but still dosen't work :/

Will this do a better job then the stock heat sink? I know its for matx cases but it has those 4 clamps thing so I don't have to take out the mobo and put the mounting bracket on etc... *im kind of lazy for those things hehe*. But I should see better temps with that eh?

Most (all?) hsfs pull air in with the fan and blow it out through the sink - an exhaust right there would be fighting it.

I prefer the side fan to be an intake, then it puts cold air right onto the cpu / bridges.

.94 version of Core temp reads 15C lower than the .95 version on tjunction and in actual temps, since the .94 is pretty much what the bios reads, i'm using that version till a newer version is out.

This also jives with what the MSI software for my board reads.

so .94 is more accurate? are you sure that .94 reads 15C lower than the .95 version? :p

I guess Im still going to get a new heatsink for the cpu to see if that will help.

Oh yea btw I changed the exhaust(ontop of cpu on the sidepanel) and It reduced the temps down by 3 degrees celcius :p not much but helps. So should I lower down the voltage for the cpu a bit? to like maybe 1.3000? By the way how do you lower down the volt of the cpu in the bios for the intel d975xbx mobo? Went into bios settings but can't find the correct place :/

update, went back to the original place where I downloaded the core temp and saw that he is also using a e4300 and at 56 degrees celcius so I think im fine?
 
Delta to Tjunction is more important in this case. I Idle at 50 Degrees Celsius on my Sunbeam Silent Whisper and it's 84 Farenheit in the room right now. Core 0 is 46 and Core 1 is 50. Speed is overclocked to 2.4GHZ no EIST. I am using OCZ Ultra 5+ as my thermal paste.

This is from TAT, if I used CoreTemp 0.94 I would idle at 35 Degrees Celsius. 60 Degrees C at idle is mildy warm but still 40 Degrees from Tjunction.

In this case.... I will wait for the 2gb g.skill ram I bought to go down to $80 or even $75 and get another pair :D
 
I'd ignore the core temp readings in .95, it's just flat wrong, read it from .94 at idle, reboot and jump into the bios, should be within 1-2c which makes more sense than .95's added 15C.

I'm currently at 28C idle, and 54C load using .94.

Ok, I think Im fine then :D. Another question, how do I bring down the voltage of the e4300 in the intel d975xbx motherboard bois settings? I can't find the place to tune down the voltage settings :/. Or perhaps any easy, user friendly utility that will do? *lowering down the voltage a bit should also help the temps eh? Voltage is currently at 1.3250 planning to lower it to 1.3

I know I could be doing better then I am, but with the stock cooler (and stock pre-applied paste) @ 2.9GHz 1.325v I idle at 43C or so, and load at 70C with 20C room temps. I'm gonna pickup some Arctic Clean and AS5 to redo the compound on the stock cooler to see what gains there are and eventually pickup a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme and a decent fan.

EDIT: I actually just realised that I'm running Core Temp 0.95...is it a general consensus that it's temps are way too high and I might not even be running as hot as I am???

Yep, your not running as hot as that, get .94, it appears to be right.
 
well thats it im going to fry's today(because its kind of urgent) and pick up a zalman 9600(I know I can get it cheaper at newegg though). Yesterday I decided to fold on my computer then like the temp jumps up to 65 degrees... and in like 20minute... I smelled something burning. Now right after I boot up the system. its showing 65 on the core temp, I know that the core temp is reading temps correctly because when I went into my bios last time it was at 55degrees................. Anyways... INTEL"S HSF SUCKS!!! *sorry for shouting*

edit- or do you think the chip is defective? Also will the zalman 9600 fit in a raidmax smilodon case?

If you read all of my posts earlier*guess not*, I re applied the thermal paste 3 times and make sure that the clamps are all down and locked. core temp .95 but then again in my last post I said I Know that the core temp is reading the temps correctly since its the same as the bios and my case has 2 intakes and 2 outtakes and the wires are not in the way. To answer your under load or idle question... im not going to answer that at all since I mentioned it in my last post.

p.s. I used to get 50 idle before I smelt the burning smell... should I just rma the cpu anyways just incase its defective?
 
omg im a complete idiot... I just went over and looked at my icon*next to clock on tool bar* and saw that F@H was running and after I quit it the temps went back down to 50degrees.... silly me:D but then again I should get a better heat sink, but cheaper then the zalman.
 
Burning smells are bad.

Please spend a few dollars on another plain ordinary 80mm casefan at the very least and increase your case airflow. I don't think a cpu temp of 60 should produce burning smells. Maybe something else is overheating.

Are you still operating in an 80F ambient environment?

well it could be my ps3 since its kind of close to my computer and running F@H and ofcourse for team 33 :D. well as I said I have very good air flow and my room sounds like a jet with all the fans :/ my case is a raidmax smilodon and you can check it on newegg*has lots of fans*... I will take pictures of my rig in a bit when im not that lazy :D, just finished catching up a bit on my algebra and bout to play bf2 :D*Im on summer break now fyi*
I decided to get 2 more gigs of g.skill ram.. then maybe that will help reduce the load which means lower temps for cpu*just a guess* but I wanted to get 2 more gigs of ram anyways.

edit- yes I am and I live in houston, texas well really close to it and you know how texas summer can be.. but the weather this year has been much better then last year.
 
Mine is @ 2.6GHz, idles at 32 degree's celsius and hits 50 degrees celsius after 2 hours of 3DMark05 CPU tests, however I have got it up to 72 degrees celsius with Intel TAT.

I'm of the train of thought that says "if the mobo designer felt it necessary to put a fan on the NB... then it should be plugged in and running".

I'm also of the train of thought that says if your ambient temp is 80F, then you need airconditioning, more fans, and maybe watercooling and some more fans. It kinda explains your cpu temps.
