I'm curious...
I have a Dell XPS lappy, with C2D T7200 (merom). Upon realizing how much it really does kick the crap outta my workstation, I decided to upgrade.
Workstation now runs Opty 185, 3Gb PC3200 in dual-channel, and FireGL X3-256.
Yet, my lappy still beats workstation by ~10 sec. on 1M super_pi. (24.5 sec. average vs. 33.3 sec. average)
Lappy only has 2Gb, but is DDR2-667. C2D has 2Mb L2 per core as opposed to 1Mb/core on Opty, but the Opty is 2.6GHz, vs C2D at 2.0 GHz.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the lappy screams... but I'm just a bit surprised that the Opty didn't beat it. Any insight anyone? Is C2D really that much better than AMD? How much of this difference is due the faster RAM? Also, I should mention that I haven't had much time to try and compare real-time performance through apps. Just simple benchmarks.
