if so what should i look for that will indicate a one

im trying to keep costs at a minimum since i need to get several

If you need surge protection, it makes no sense to go cheap as it wont work well or long and you just blew up a $1000 computer by saving $8. Good units can be found for $15 or so, Stay away from the $7.99 ones. Everything you need to know is at the link below.

They do wear out, get a UL listed one, when the on/off light starts flickering , throw it out or use it just as an outlet expander as the surge protection is worn out.
