Seems like the one on my motherboard has driver problems. I just want to try a non-onboard network adapter. Which one is the best? Which one should I purchase?

Seconded, run intel cards in almost every machine personally. (the one that doesn't lacks the space for one being a tiny little HTPC and all)

You can get low profile Intel pro 1000's

GT, PT, MT, And I'm sure there are many more xT variants out there.

But yeah, any Intel, eBay is your friend, make sure you get a Gigabit one!

Only Intel unless you enjoy diagnosing funky issues with a packet analyzer. That's why I tend to buy Supermicro since it comes standard with Intel NICs and not the usual crap.

If you can afford it, go for the dual or quad intel nics. The Dual 1000MT i think its called on PCI interface is easily findable for like 10 bucks.

Dual PCIe can be found for like 30ish I think.

Quad PCIe gets expensive, but its nice to have.

Get them used on ebay.

+2 for intel. I am using intel network card. Quality wise, it is the best. I have tried dlink, linksys, and tp-link.

Advanced users know this but please at least separate brands from actual controller chips...
That said, pretty much anything using Intel and Broadcom is fine.

I've used everything.

I prefer Intel. The drivers are so stable and feature rich.
The cards are incredible.

Simply put, they make incredible cards.
